I was under the impression that the V500 was a new scanner. When speaking with a representative I was advised that it has been around for several years. Although the software has been updated the OCR has not. It is about four versions old. Is scanner installation software compatible to Windows 8? If not is there a download when needed?

Easy to use and works!

I bought the V500 to scan old photos and slides so I can more easily share with family. Worked great out of the box especially for scanning photos. Once I figured out that I had the slide template upside down, scanning 50 year old slides was easy and emotionally stimulating.

Epson Perfection V500 Photo Scanner

I love my Epson Perfection V500 Photo Scanner. It is very easy to use, and makes scans images precisely. When I travel, the scanner is small enough and light-weight enough to throw it in the car, and scan the pictures of those whom I visit. No more having to locate a copier and make copies. With the pictures scanned into my computer, I can choose to print any of the pictures when I return home.

Great scanner - high quality image output!

I have worked in graphic design for over 10 years. I have only used Epson scanners, and have always been very pleased with the results. All of the scanned images I use are reproduced in print, and I have never been disappointed. My new Epson Perfection V500 Photo Scanner is no exception. I would recommend Epson products to anyone looking for high-quality, high-resolution, clarity in reproduction, and dependability.

Why not improve quality instead of making it cheap

Why not include printed info on operation instead of having to print it out? The carriers included to hold slides, negatives, etc are plastic junk. Sad, you don't spend a little more and make a quality product. I promised myself I would never buy an Epson again, and here I am again :-(

Epson Perfection V500 Photo Scanner

The real beauty in the product is that the scanning software allows one to choose from lots of settings for any scanning job. Choose from Photo or Document; choose dpi settings; run a preview, select or box off individual items, like each separate photo on a page. Choose ALL. Give the files a name in one box then a number in a second box. Scan. All items go into the computer with the same name but different chronically ordered numbers via one scanning pass. This is the best scanning system ever. It works great for scanning pages of album pictures where one wants to end up with individual pictures or if one wants to scan a person on a picture as one file then the entire picture as a second file. I never read a review about this product, but somehow ended up with this product and so I want to contribute enough info so that one knows what the product is capable of. It is totally awesome.

Epson Perfection V500 - off to a good start

I grew tired of waiting for previous scanner to "adjust lamp" between scans for OCR. Researched alternatives and bought this scanner at local office supply store. Unpacked it, quick software install, a few tweaks to get all programs to recognize it, and within 15 minutes I was up and running again with no wait time between scans. OCR working much faster now and good color scans on photos.
