Great Product

I am now retired, but I worked with computers and computer hardware my entire career. I must say this was the easiest setup of any hardware I ever used. I had been looking for years for a scanner that I could use to digitize my old slides and this not only accomplishes that, but it also improves the color quality of the pictures. Thank you.

Love it!

"When I first opened the scanner, I was a little worried by how light weight it was and how "flimsy" it appeared as well as with it's accessories being made out of light weight plastic.
The scanner's software is easy to install on the computer as well as synching everything up. It's a little confusing how to change settings from photo scanning to film scanning but can be figured out with some patience and playing around with the machine.
The quality is really good but if you change the scan quality to above 300 dpi, it takes a while to process.
When scanning film and inserting it into the plastic scanning holder, I wish there was marks where each negative should align at. Some of my negatives once they were scanned into the computer had border marks which was a little annoying because it's one more thing I need to edit in Photoshop.
Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase!"

Good but slow

The scanner is very simple to set up and inialize. The results are excellent. However this scanner is quite slow. If doing many photos or slides, consider the V600 which I believe is a faster model.

Epson V500 photo scanner

I purchased my Epson V500 photo scanner to scan slides to jpeg so I could put them into a DVD slide show for my friend. I had a top end scanner from another company that did slides and negatives. However the quality and detail can not compare to the Epson V500. This is the first Epson product that I ever owned. The software is great, fast scanning with the LED light and very easy to us. I would recommend this scanner to anyone who wants a quality scanner with ICE technology or removing dust and scrathes from photos. This is the best scanner I ever had.

Works fine, small for transparencies

I have had no problems with this scanner. Very easy setup and use. Fine scanning results. Very happy with the speed of scanning.
My biggest complaint is the size allowed for transparency scanning. After using the 4490 for years, I did not think this one would have such a significantly smaller scanning area for transparency scans. It can only scan two frames of 120mm film at a time, or up to about 6 frames from 35mm film. It requires constant switching of film since batch scanning is rather impossible, and it can not at all fit 4x5 negatives. Since I use it mostly for negative scanning, I am very disappointed with its transparency scanning capabilities.

The V500 Scanner

I've been using the V500 to scan old photos, slides and 35mm negatives. I really like how the digital ice takes away the scratches and dust spots.
It does a great job but if you have TONS of things to scan, you may need something a bit quicker, but for all intents and purposes, this scanner is HIGHLY recommended by me.

A Great one that could use a few toucheups

As a long time user of scanners I can appreciate this new acquisition. I have scanned old b&w films with amazing results, dust and scratches taken care of. I'm looking forward to doing my library of color negs and slides. I have not used any of the preprogammed one touch features, only the advanced ones which have proven quite extensive, even if in some cases lacking when scanning some reflective material. Let me say that none of the others I owned had them.
I will explain, first the transparency frames lack a storage slot, so does the pressure pad when removed; the plastic wrapper provided tore at the first use. I worry about damaging or misplacing them in my crowded office. Another one, I found that scanning magazines and books difficult, the clean fitting cover does not allow fingers to prevent the subject from shifting and skewing. The edges of the glass are understandably thin, thus making alignment hard. Resulting in a skewed image that cannot be properly cropped. This calls for an auto-alignment feature of some sort, that would be a great new one. Also apparently lacking is a mean to descreen subjects that create moires. It just falls short of displacing totally my boat anchor 9x14 which I stiil find useful.

Perfection 500C

Very nice scanner for the money. Great Software interface allows selecting multiple images on a single preview scan. It will also automatcally select images from a preview. 500C does a nice job with film negatives and slides, even odd sizes from very old negatives and tiny negatives from the old 110 film format. Boost the scan resolution for Negatives and Slides.
You may grow beyond capabilities of Photoshop Elements. It is capable of moderately advanced editing and its included at no extra cost.
DO NOT leave this unit powered on for three years straight like I did with my first one! There is an on/off switch I suggest you use it. I found it was less expensive to buy a new 500C rather than diagnose and replace a failed power supply on the old one
