Excellent scanner ! Very easy setup and smooth operation and interface with Windows 7. My previous scanner was a very good Epson 3200, but the new V500 exceeds the old scanner in every specification. Very pleased.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I purchased this scanner after reading on line reviews. I must say, I agree that this is an awesome product. I rescued old slides that my Father took. His photos of Honolulu in 1946, when he was in the service and many old family memories are now preserved. The scanner and software were very easy to install and use. I was able to restore color and fix dust and scratches from the old slides. Thank you Epson. Great product!

I bought this scanner to scan and work with precious but old photos. Scanned every photo I had of family, fixed old/bad photos, then scanned every important document my family had going back over 50 years. It ALWAYS works perfect and still works like it's brand new. I LOVE IT !!!!!!

Easy to Set-up and Use

While I can't compare this scanner to other photo scanners, it seems to work well, and was easy to set-up and use. I'm using it primarily to digitize old family photos, and the process is going smoothly. The only issues that I have had are that the scanner doesn't always recognize when a new format (picture size) has been scanned unless you perform a preview. So if you are scanning a lot of similarly size photos, this isn't an issue, but if you are switching back and forth (from say, polaroids to 4x4 prints) it is time-consuming to preview each photo.
The color fixing seems to work well, and the dust and scratch removal feature is nice.
I will say that I have had issues trying to keep the scanner bed clean, as it tends to get oily/dusty as photos are transferred. Cleaning with a microfiber cloth and glass cleaner was not all that effective.

Affordability with excellence

I am was professional photographer long before the digital age and for more than 25 years, I found myself with more than a dozen boxes full of color slides and negatives. (more than 10.000 photographs between color slides and negatives.)
The V500 is all I need to transfer my photos into digital images. The features that this scanner saved me an incredible number of hours of Photoshop in trying to fix the negs and slides. It is fast, compact and, most of all, affordable.
I know that there are different scanners that can do the same thing, however this one is the one that can transform a faded color slide into a color slide with vivid and full colors.
I do recommend the V500 to anyone that has images to transfer an do not have time or the expertise to play around Photoshop or similar image enhancing software.

Excellent product

Have used this scanner to scan about 200 35mm slides into digital images. I was amazed at how easy it was to use and the quality of the images, including the easy click color restoration option. I also scanned some prints with equally outstanding results. Excellent unit for the price.

Epson Perfection V500 Photo Scanner

About a decade ago I bought an Epson Perfection 1200U scanner and have scanned thousands of prints and negatives with complete satisfaction. But I also have several thousand 35 mm slides and have not been able to satisfactorily scan them on my 1200U.
Recently I came across several glowing reviews of the V500 which included high praise for the quality of slides scanned on it. So I decided to give it a try and ordered one from Epson. It arrived only two days later and as I unpacked it I noted the attractive appearance and look of quality. Connecting it to my MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion and downloading the latest Epson Scan software took only a few minutes.
I have now scanned over 400 prints and 200 or so 35 mm color slides in the Full Auto Mode without any problems and with excellent results.
Some of the slides are more than 60 years old and in glass mounts. They all look great although they would look better if I had been more careful when mounting them to avoid fingerprints. I don't believe it was a good idea to mount them in glass but to a teenager it seemed like a good idea.
The commercial slide scanning companies I originally contacted were all reluctant to process slides mounted in glass and those who were willing to do so wanted a big surcharge in addition to their already very high scanning charge.
So I'm real happy with my new V500 which cost only a tiny fraction of what commercial scanning of a few hundred slides would have. I've been able to compare my results with those of a friend who had some of my slides commercially scanned for a project he is working on. I can see no difference even at reasonable zoom settings.
