software woes

What I have learned so far of the machine--it works great. My problem is with the software: I have a new large capacity laptop with Window 7 and I could not get any of the 3 downloads except "scan". Consumer assit. was less than useless. I need a download manual on all aspects of of the V500 Photo.
I have had several brands of scanners over the years including Epson. Some have been great and others were not so great for one reason or another (usually speed and set up issues).
The Epson Perfection is not only fast but is also an excellent way to scan multiple media formats easily and clearly. With the inclusion of Photoshop Elements with the scanner, you can scan and create right out of the box. The set up was simple and easy to do. Load the software, plug it in the port, and ready to go. Can't be any simpler than that!
I highly recommend this scanner to anyone. It's priced right, has great features, and with the use of LED, warm up time is quick unlike most scanners in this price range. For the best bang for your buck, you cannot beat this Epson scanner.
Just used it last night, made test runs scanning paper, 35mm negs. and some slides. WOW ! I must admit that when I placed the order I didn't know what I would get. I got plenty ! I only used it on auto mode but looked at the advanced settings and it looks promising. Easy set up, and a no brainer to operate. Scans are fast and quiet. It just chirps softly. Uploading fast to my PC on Windows 7. The quality is perfect. I tried a few 50yearsold family pic. slides from 1988/89 and negs, from the mid 90's. Very impressive results. It surpassed my expectations. Just be gentle with the negs. and slides holder, that would be the only weak point if you were too rough.
We have had our scanner less than a week but we really like how it operates. I purchased it to scan B&W Negatives and it works beautifuly scanning them. It is easy to operate and works quite efficiently. Great scanner for the price!
Very good scanner, scans at 4800 dpi in a timely fashion using the Professional Mode, no significant warm-up time, installed easily. I was unable to get it to scan only part of the scan table so a 4800 dpi scan of a 4 x 6 photo is much larger than it has to be but that is only an inconvenience unless your computer is short of memory or has a slow processor when editing.
I have had this scanner for almost two years now. I have scanned a few thousand photos. I have used it to scan very old family photos, many that are black and white to copy to dvd and share with family members. The scans of both black and white and color photos look as good as the original photos and really look good when viewed on tv. I have also scanned 35 negatives and the scans are as good as the prints. I highly recommend this scanner.
