Piece of junk

1st scanner plugged it in and had a constant orange light. Returned it for another scanner, it worked fine for about 45 minutes of constant use then totally stopped and had constant orange light. Bought this to save time vs my old 3170 scanner which I decided now not to replace

Great Family History Scanner

I bought this scanner to digitize documents and photos for my family history work. It has far exceeded my expectations. It can scan multiple photos at a time with ease. Also, I was skeptical about how well the film scanning would work but the quality of this feature has blown me away. The only thing I could ask for would be an automatic document feeder to make scanning multiple page documents faster/easier. This is a must have for family history people.

Fantastic scanner clearly best option

I highly recommend this scanner for Medium format negatives, The V500 is clearly the best solution for this format. I am currently scanning 8,000 medium format negatives from the 30's thru 50's after looking at the results from just a few scans I have retired my 3 other scanners.
CONS.
If you have started a large scan project with a inferior scanner, you will have to rescan previously scanned negatives with the V500.
The film holder is very flimsy but functional I am sure I will break it before I finish this project.
I wish the Epson Scan Software worked on Linux, ISCAN For Linux is to basic.
I quickly found out the connectivity issues were caused by the WIN-7 screen saver.
I am sure if you are not getting Professional results with the V500 you are doing something wrong.

Pretty good scanner, terrible setup & installation

The scanner seems to be working pretty well and I'm satisfied with that, but the setup and installation process was ridiculously archaic. It felt like they hired an engineer from 1992 to build it out.

Scanner review

This scanner is flexible and reasonably fast with flexibility to make adjustments for many different situations. However, I am currently having difficulty with the auto-feed mechanism. It worked well at first. After only a few hours total use it does not always properly 'grab' the paper in the feed tray. I have not discovered the cause or solution for this yet. It could be the 'slippery' paper I use or the heavier 28 lb. paper that is the source of the problem.

Scanner is great, EXCEPT FOR

I have liked the professional interlaces by Epson over the last 10+ years and this caused me to buy this new one. This new scanner is faster and the interface is typical Epson, great but only work in 32 bit programs. These interfaces are not Twain 64 bit compliant and won't work on true 64 bit programs that I have. See Twain Working Group's "Twack-64" program to verify this. I can only get the simpler interface to come up using a non Twain option and that doesn't have any option to get the pro interface. The "Twain Acquire" option window is blank on these programs. I hope Epson corrects this as I see this problem talked about all over the internet.

As good as it gets!

I had a older version of this scanner, lasted 10 years before the optics went out!
So we decided we had a good long haul with it we decided to get the V500.
Well this thing is great! Very quite! Much faster then the old one.
Install was a breeze, only because I read the instructions!!!! The only thing you have to remember is to shut down the anti-virus and DON"T plug in the scanner until you get the software installed!! You will run into problems if you don't read the instructions. I re-install Windows about every 12-18 months. SO there was a couple of times I didn't go with the instructions and had to start from scratch with the install!
SO BE ADVISED!
Other than that the scanner is perfect!

Excellent machine, matches up with specifications. Scans both negatives and slides with great results. I have made sixteen by twenty enlargements from 35mm negatives.
