Good scanner w/ a design flaw

I bought this scanner to use in my classroom computer lab. Overall it's a good scanner and has nice resolution, speed, and so far it has been easy for my students (grades 9-12) to use with minimal instruction and help.
There is a design flaw that isn't a huge deal, but for the price of the scanner I'm annoyed. The scanner arrived as a regular flatbed and I had to take the lid off and put the new lid with a document feeder on. The switch that locks the document feeder lid into place is located in a place where, if it is locked, the cable that connects the scanner to the computer cannot be plugged in. Therefore, I have to keep the document feeder lid unlocked. This means that it can be lifted straight off the scanner.

V500 Great Scanner

My mother in law has downsized to an assisted living center and has lots of photo albums that will go to a digital photo frame. We are really pleased with the quality and "new" look of the scanned pictures - some are 60 years old an really yellow. Also this scanner is so easy to use. I will also use this scanner in my dye sublimation business as it is a really nice upgrade to the previous scanner.

Great Value for Home Use

I found the V500 a easy to use scanner that provided better results than I expected. I use the V500 to archive antique photos and documents and slides. With the custom features set properly and using the Automatic mode I found that very little editing was necessary. The only criticism I have is that the installation instructions are a little sparse on word instructions.

Hardware seems good. Software is junk

The installer installed the driver without any input from me. Every time I power up the V500 it starts scanning and never stops — scan after scan after scan. There seems to be no way to control it and no uninstaller to get rid of it. Next time I’ll try another manufacturer.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have been scanning slides from the 1950's and 60's. The scanner is easy to use and adjusts the color so easily. It fixes many problem pictures so not so much work has to be done in PSE.

I purchased this scanner because I upgraded my computer from Windows XP to Windows 7 and my previous scanner did not have driver updates available, but there appear to be compatibility problems. I went to Epson for drivers specifically for the Perfection V500 scanner for Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, but I still have only limited functions. I cannot scan to a PDF in spite of the instructions - I can only achieve a JPEG which I can then convert to PDF. Fine for one page, but not for more. Inquiries tell m e that the hardware is compatible with my computer, but the results say otherwise. What is wrong?
