Nice little scanner

I was the high school paper photographer back in the 70s when all we had was 120/220 rolls of B&W film. Recently I came across a box with hundreds of (hilarious) negatives. The V500 has been doing an incredible job of digitizing these negatives, and I'm posting them up on Yearbook.*** for all my classmates to enjoy.

An excellent Scanner

The V500 is easy to use. It has both a professional setting that allows a lot more input and a quick home style. The professional mode works very well when you want to have more control over what you are doing. The home mode allows you to scan quickly without input from you. The scanner does an excellent job of scanning several photos at one time and brings them in as separate photos. The Abby Fine Reader does a very good job, even with old obituaries and newspaper articles, of reading what is in the article. You do have to correct some things, but not many. The copier direct to your printer is a nice feature as well. The dust and scratch removal feature works very well, although if the photo is badly scratched, you will have to finish the work.

Epson Scanner

This relatively low-priced scanner is a nice device to scan old negatives and photos of all sizes into my picture library. The scanner is easy to set up and easy to operate. The quality of the scans is excellent. I have 35mm films and old color and black and white photos that are more than 40 years old. The scanned results are clear and sharp. I do not even have to use the dust or scratch removal options. I would recommend the scanner to any photo hobbyist as a good addition to one's set of at-home photo tools.

A pro machine

Epson Perfection V500 Photo Scanner

I bought this refurbished scanner based on reviews that I had read for scanning my slides, negatives and photos, B & W and color. It's been perfect for my needs. It provides all the resolutions that I need. I use primarlily the high resolutions for maximum scan quality. It's scans quickly and is easy to use.
I recommend this scaner. It is a great value!

Solid Performance

I've used the scanner for some time now, through hundreds of film negatives, prints, slides, and all manner of documents. It's solid reliability gets me through a workload with predictable results. I'm currently using it to scan a lifetime of imaging- black and white, color, prints, and different film formats. The V500 handles them all without complaint. I use a different method for slides, but for a small batch, the scanner and bundled software do a fine job.
The V500 is a multitasker at its best.

Adequate for the job

I am one of those baby-boomers with thousands of color slides to scan. I've had other Epson scanners in the past, the Perfection 1640 did a wonderful job with slides, but I could not get software updates to work with the new Mac OS. So far the V500 works fine., but not as well as the 1640.
