On my Mac I run both Windows (under Parallel) and OS Lion, latest version. However the scanner works OK in Windows 7, but not at all in Lion. Message:"Can not be started". This is the second scanner V500 I installed and the same problem. I installed it exactly as instructed for Mac Lion, i.e. downloaded driver and utilities directly from Epson.com. It used to work fine in previous version Leopard. By-the-way, the troubleshooting window is worthless. Please help. Thank you.
Our scanner is everything we hoped for. We have had some disappointing results with other scanners we have tried. This scanner was up and running in less than 20 minutes and everything is working perfectly … perhaps that is why it is called Epson Perfection V500. We are looking forward to digitizing the rest of our photos and slides.
I have owned this scanner since 9-11-2011. I have tested this machine on several occasions and in different job. I can say by now that I am very satisfied with the way it performs. I have another older scanner from Epson and because I am satisfied with the job that one does, I bought this one. I especially like that there is no waiting for the light to warm up between scanned jobs and how quick the scans are done.
When switching to Windows 7, my old scanner would not work and there were no adaptive software versions available. The V500 was so easy to install and operate. It came with all the required parts to utilize the various features. I was able to go into production as soon as the software was installed. There was no calibration required and the insert for slide scanning was clearly marked. So far I only use it for digitizing slides and negatives, but I also have a photo album from my parents where I can use the restoration feature for faded prints. I am delighted!
The scanner (I had a 3170 which I loved, but may have moved on) will not install on windows 7. I have tried virtually everything. Will give it another try, but there definitely does seem to be both a mechanical and program problem. Cannot even download a new program and this is with all microsoft security programs, including the firewall turned off.
I am a Mac User (Snowleopard OS).I found the install process very easy after downloading the latest update software for my computer from Epson. It automatically installed into the Applications folder, then I went in there and dragged it (Epson Scan) to the Dock for launching. The default scanned file location is at the first level on the hard drive.I changed my default to the desktop for easy access and also made a folder for each group of scans to store for later editing.
