Scanning Experience

I had tried another scanner that was a complete bust. I finally decided on The Epson Perfection V500 after reading a number of reviews. I received it, installed it with absolutely no problem, and started scanning. I have scanned over 2,000 negatives and slides in two weeks and am having a ball. There has only been a couple of glitches. A couple of times it has read a color negative as a color photo. I resolved this by using the Home Mode. The other issue I have had is when I tried to scan some square black and white negatives. It wouldn't scan them and I have not been able to resolve this issue. I'm sure some of the more expensive and professional scanners may do a better job, but for me, this one fits the bill.

EPSON V500 Photo Scanner

This is a great scanner for a reasonable price. Scans my photo negs, slides, and prints with excellent quality. Only drawback is lack of 4x5 format for transparencies/negs.
Recommend it for most work.

Epson Perfection V500 Scanner

For the most part, I am very pleased with the scanner, but I will mention what I don't like.
When I scan slides for inclusion in a talk, the slides are not in focus and the scanner cuts off part of the image. Thus, they are nearly unusable.
I also don't like the fact that there is no preview shown before you have to save the file. I cannot choose a target file (like MyScans), nor can I name the file before it is saved.

Only thing I would highly recommend is Epson add some short video tutorials on disc or made available online for their products. The actual v500 scanner though is truly amazing.

Perfection V500 Photo Scanner

* Decent for glossy snapshot scans. Reasonably quick.
* Poor for textured snapshot scans - all look out of focus. No noise or moire removal works.
* Slide/Negative scans product decent quality but are pretty slow.
* Scans with Digital ICE are painfully slow.
* At least there is no delay waiting for the scanner to warm up!

Setting it up was easy! Using it to to copy old photos, slides, and negatives was awesome! Scanning process really didn't take to long. Had expected it to take longer to scan. Like other scanners I have used.

Great Family History Scanner

I bought this scanner to digitize documents and photos for my family history work. It has far exceeded my expectations. It can scan multiple photos at a time with ease. Also, I was skeptical about how well the film scanning would work but the quality of this feature has blown me away. The only thing I could ask for would be an automatic document feeder to make scanning multiple page documents faster/easier. This is a must have for family history people.
