I purchased this scanner because I upgraded my computer from Windows XP to Windows 7 and my previous scanner did not have driver updates available, but there appear to be compatibility problems. I went to Epson for drivers specifically for the Perfection V500 scanner for Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, but I still have only limited functions. I cannot scan to a PDF in spite of the instructions - I can only achieve a JPEG which I can then convert to PDF. Fine for one page, but not for more. Inquiries tell m e that the hardware is compatible with my computer, but the results say otherwise. What is wrong?

Excellent scanner. The photo repair does a great job - restored all my 40 year old wedding pictures. My brother got the V700 which is nicer if you have a lot of scanning to do as it has a feeder. The two of us have been collecting old family photos and we have brought them back to life.

Epson Perfection V500 Scanner

For the most part, I am very pleased with the scanner, but I will mention what I don't like.
When I scan slides for inclusion in a talk, the slides are not in focus and the scanner cuts off part of the image. Thus, they are nearly unusable.
I also don't like the fact that there is no preview shown before you have to save the file. I cannot choose a target file (like MyScans), nor can I name the file before it is saved.

Scan to Email?

What a disappointment! It says it scans to email which it does - but what it doesn't tell you is that it ONLY scans to MS Outlook and MS Live Community emails. So if you don't use those then you are out of luck. Haven't they ever heard of gmail, yahoo, hotmail or the myriad of other email providers? Very short-sighted. I wouldn't recommend this scanner.

Dog Slow Scanner

i bought this thing after using a couple of all-in-one scanners for years. I thought I would get a higher end model than the AIO scanner because the reviews said this was a fast scanner. It takes forEVER to preview & also to scan. I'm not happy with it at all. Come on, write a Lion driver for this thing so it runs like a LION, not the turtle it is. To scan an 8X10 in B&W photo (thousands of grays) @ 1200 dpi took 4 minutes!

Not easy to use

This scanner came with no operation manual. I do not thing I should have to go online and print one to figure out how to use it.
It is noisy and slow. They claim it is a fast scanner but it takes over a minute to scan a page of a document.

V500 Photo scanner

I purchased this scanner 2 years ago and have scanned hundreds of pictures and several thousand slides and negatives(color/B&W) and found it to do well for the price. If you want professional results you need to spend professional money. It has worked on XP and 7 with no problems. I use the professional mode and like the control it gives you.
One of the problems I found was no carrier for the 126 size film. It can be scanned, but it is a pain. I have scanned 110,35,126 and 2.25x2.25 negatives, color and B&W.You can get some great results from suspect transparencies, but prints look out of focus. As I have learned more I have gotten better, but a bad negative is a bad negative. My scanner died yesterday, just went off and will not come back on,power supply is OK. I am now looking at the V700 or V750.
