Piece of junk

1st scanner plugged it in and had a constant orange light. Returned it for another scanner, it worked fine for about 45 minutes of constant use then totally stopped and had constant orange light. Bought this to save time vs my old 3170 scanner which I decided now not to replace
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Just got this and set it up. The setup went smoothly using windows7. The adobe software setup smoothly. Sat down and started using scanner and software immediately. Easily to follow prompts on screen. Used the slide scanner and got good results dust removed no scratches to speak of on the slides I was scanning. If the unit continues to work as it came out of the box I believe it will do the negatives and slides I bought it for. I was also considering the 750 and am glad I decided to go with the 500. The package I was looking at had the same photo software and I'm not sure if the operation of the scanner would offset the cost difference.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I have had epson scanner 3170 in the past and did an upgrade mainly due to the old scanners software. As for this scanner I'm sure will be great except the CD is already 2 years old and abbyy is only version 6.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Simply love it. I had a lot of film negitives to digitize and the pictures turned out crisp and clear, even the older ones. Much better than expected.

Paper to digital pictures

My mother had 100 years of collecting family pictures. To share with several children and grandchildren my siblings suggested I find a good scanner and make copies. The V500 makes excellent copies. Most impressive is the ability to copy a wallet size photo and blow it up to an 8X10 WITHOUT loss of quality.

This has been a great scanner so far. we are scanning old photos and it will scan 6 at a time and seperate them automatic. Thats a real time saver. Also ads color to old photo's. Great scanner for the price.

Epson V500

I have slides, strips and larger negatives that are about 2 X 3". The scan to an actual picture is good. I previously had to figure out how to convert to a picture. However, the frames that hold the films are very awkward to use. I'm having to use trial and error to know exactly where to place the film on the frame, and it slides around when I go to put it on the window.
There should be little "hooks" that would grab the negative strips to hold them down still. I haven't tried slides yet.
The choices above on recommending to a friend should also include "not sure yet". I will have to work more before making a final decision.
I'm hoping to figure out how to scan the films without the frames by just placing them correctly on the window.
