Best I've Owned

This is my third dedicated scanner and it is easily the best I've ever owned. Although I've read some concerns about speed, it is pretty peppy on my system. The colors and depth of detail in the photos I've scanned have been surprisingly true. It was a very easy setup as I did NOT have another scanner with TWAIN drivers installed on this system.
I do have to say that I got this scanner mostly to scan old slides I have. But after my tests with photos, I'm still scanning photos and haven't yet made it to the slides. All in all a great scanner for the price. I'm really glad I saw it on sale this week and jumped at the chance to buy it!
It is easy to customize and the dust-removing feature has worked perfectly.

V500

I never write reviews but this scanner has exceeded my expectations. This along with my 3880 makes for a nice combination. Monitor calibration is the key. Using it for archival prints. Excellent output for the price. Some prints actually look better than the originals. Clients are impressed. Good job Epson.

Great scanner

I bought this scanner specifically to scan negatives. I have many older 120/620 negs. I sent some away to be printed at a very high cost. I paid less for this printer then it cost me to have prints made. I have been very impressed with the results. So have people I've sent scans to. The older black and white negs. come out great and there are enough adjustments to make the negs that are not the best better. Now I can finish digitizing all my old negatives and my newer ones too. Digital is definitely an easier way to share.

Scannin 120 Film
on February 24, 2012

I bought this V500 for scanning 120 film. It also does 35mm but I use another scanner for 35mm.
120 scans at 1200 dpi work great with this machine. Newtons Rings are prevented by the film carrier which holds the film off the surface of the glass, an expected problem with some other flatbeds. Dynamic Range of the V500 is less than a professional scanner, but good enough for most work, and certainly great for the price. The odd dark transparency may need a professional scanner, but I'm happy with most of my results.

I have about 1000 slides that are 1/2 frame that I took on a trip to Europe back in the 70's. My main objective is to preserve them and create a slide show without getting out the old Kodak Carousel and screen. This little scanner is doing a GREAT job scanning them onto my Mac with a user friendly program and great enhancement tools with the digital ICE. The only complaint is that it takes about 12 minutes for 4 slides at 3200 dpi from preview to cropping, adjusting and saving. BUT, the end result is lookin GOOD!!! Well worth the time and a great little scanner for it's price!

Bought this to scan negatives and slides. I was using another brands MFP that worked OK but not great.
The V500 was much faster and I am very happy with the quality. No complaints.

Best for the money

A great product, easy to use and comes with everything you need including usb wire. It separates multiple pictures on the scanner into 1 each making them easy to save. The quality is adjustable and easy to make high for digital photo books which require high res images. My only complaint is that it sometimes flips the images the way it wants no matter where you position it. It is also little slow but I imagine that is why the images are high quality. Great product and reasonably priced.

Perfection V500 Photo Scanner

* Decent for glossy snapshot scans. Reasonably quick.
* Poor for textured snapshot scans - all look out of focus. No noise or moire removal works.
* Slide/Negative scans product decent quality but are pretty slow.
* Scans with Digital ICE are painfully slow.
* At least there is no delay waiting for the scanner to warm up!
