The scanner is great!

I have been exceptionally pleased with both the speed and quality of this Epson scanner. The only problem I had was that I could not scan a document because of having another All-in-one scanner on my computer. I called and tried to hook up both scanners to my computer, but it would not work. I am going to try another time to call and see if a different technician can help me with this problem. I would highly recommend the Epson scanner to those wanting to scan photos, slides, & negatives.
I purchased this scanner specifically for its 9600 dpi capability to scan old 35mm slides and negatives. While it does an acceptable job for 4x6 prints, the software will not scan at 9600 dpi when scanning film. It produces terrible 8x10 prints! Pixelization is extremely evident. The software that comes with the scanner does NOT match the instructions and it is clear that the bundled software quality has been reduced from earlier issues. Many of the features explained in the instructions do NOT exist in the actual software, including 9600 dpi capability when scanning film. VERY DISAPPOINTED and will probably return the unit soon.
I found the "dowload" installation easy and informative. The enclosed "Start Here" printed instructions were also clear and easy to perform. I also found the "Epson.com" on-line purchase was easy and received the equipment promptly.
So far I've only used the scanner for slides and it has done a miraculous job when used with the included Photoshop Elements. I've scanned about 300 slides so far and have another 1800 or so to do yet. I just wish that scanners were quicker. I had not idea that scanning would take so much time. But I do have to admit the results are superb - even for slides dating back to the 1960's.
When I received family negetives from the early 1900's no one could develope them. They were too large. Asking around I was told about the Epson V500. Amazing, the prints are so clear my realtives look like they could speak to you. Worth every penney. Thank you Epson.
Epson makes the best scanners for the money. Load the software, plug in the scanner and you are ready to scan. Very user friendly and dose a great job with whatever you have to scan. I did have to go online to get the drivers for my MacBook Pro, but that was no problem. I would recommend this scanner as a great way to preserve all of your photos, negatives and prints.
Very happy with photo transfers. Images are crisp and colors are accurate. But experience with slides and negatives has been disappointing. I have not been able to get usable transfers using any of the recommended methods. I would recommend it to a friend with the caveat on film and slides.
