EPSON V500 Photo Scanner

This is a great scanner for a reasonable price. Scans my photo negs, slides, and prints with excellent quality. Only drawback is lack of 4x5 format for transparencies/negs.
Recommend it for most work.

Scanning Experience

I had tried another scanner that was a complete bust. I finally decided on The Epson Perfection V500 after reading a number of reviews. I received it, installed it with absolutely no problem, and started scanning. I have scanned over 2,000 negatives and slides in two weeks and am having a ball. There has only been a couple of glitches. A couple of times it has read a color negative as a color photo. I resolved this by using the Home Mode. The other issue I have had is when I tried to scan some square black and white negatives. It wouldn't scan them and I have not been able to resolve this issue. I'm sure some of the more expensive and professional scanners may do a better job, but for me, this one fits the bill.

this scanner has lots of flexibility and great resolution. i am using it mainly to scan old slides and it does very well. you can do 4 in a batch. nit pick is that the slide holders make it very hard to pick the slides back out of them, it's a pain. but, the auto correction features work very well and go a long way toward invigorating old slides.
the only real negative comment is that it hangs up during the file save process. sometimes it will go quite a few slides with no problem and then it will fail and needs to be rebooted. it has some relation to how many files have already been stored in the directory you're using but that is not the whole answer because sometimes it does it when you're on an essentially empty folder. they need to clean this up because it is frustrating.
overall, though, great scanner.

The Epson V500 is a very nice scanner. It is fast and uses resolutions fitting of a slide scanner (in fact much better than my last slide scanner).
It's shortcoming is that it coes with a "less than ideal" slide holding jig that only holds 4 slides and/or 2 strips of film.
The last scanner I used was an Epson Expression 1680 and it would hold many more of each, in that it has separate Slide and Film Trays. Also multiple trays seemed easily available for the 1680.
The limitation seems to be the "light back" of the V500. Probably taken care of in the V700 or V750 but for a higher price.

I have been scanning slides from the 1950's and 60's. The scanner is easy to use and adjusts the color so easily. It fixes many problem pictures so not so much work has to be done in PSE.

epson V500 photo scanner

I have about 600 slides from the 50's and 60's I wanted to convert and I had trouble putting out the money for a scanner just for that purpose. My brother recommended this scanner and it is great, It's exactly what I need and when I'm done with the slides I have a document scanner. I've spent 30 years in the printing business running all kinds of production equipment and this scanner is very good for the price and ease of use and it also comes with Photoshop Elements which makes this scanner a bargain. I gave this product 5 stars because putting it in operation was quick and easy and it makes a good quality scan.

V500 Perfection.

THE V500 out of box was easy setup. Initial scans were to dark but after changing to professional mode and making a few adjustments I get scans that are great!! I scan primarily casino chips and some colors are very hard to get good scans of. The V500 does a great job because of it's photoelectric sensor. A great buy.
