Best Scanner

I have used this scanner for 2 years. It's easy to use when scanning 35mm film negatives for later processing. It's also easy to scan everyday items to be filed electronically on your computer or to be printed.
The quality of all of my scanned items always come out great.
Highly recommended.

Epson Perfection V500 Photo Scanner

Have been impressed with the instructions and the simplicity of scanning. Have done 35mm slides, film and prints and all worked seamlessly -- the instructions were easy to understand and follow. Am really enjoying getting so many old, stored items up on the computer and much more available. The results thus far have been excellent.

Epson V500 LED Scanner

I am a strong believer in Epson quality and have had many inkjet Epsom printers for outstanding photographic print quality. The Epson V500 LED scanner is another fine product from Epson and would recommend it to any.

Awesome Color Restoration

I am awed at the ability of this scanner to restore color of my old 35mm slides. The end result looks as if I took the pictures today with my digital camera. Photos and documents are sharp, clear and true color.
The scanning is a little slow, but once all settings are chosen, you can set up a process and do multi-tasking on the computer while the scanner is scanning.
I like the feature where the cover will stay open at 45 degrees for loading or removing slides or documents.

Great product!

I decided to digitize all our family photos and was looking for a scanner. The V500 attracted my attention because it met the dpi and color depth requirements that I was looking for, and in addition, it offered photo restoration which I need for some of the older pictures. I am a complete novice when it comes to doing this, but the V500 has made it very easy, the restoration feature works great. I haven't used the transparency unit for slides and negatives yet, so I'm not sure how well they turn out. For the price, and the fact that it comes with Adobe Photoshop, this is a great scanner for home use.

V500 Scanner Review

Setup was straight forward and took less than 5 minutes from scanner in box to first scan out.
Speed was impressive, no warm up was required. Images were superb as expected.
I would prefer to select whether or not to add the numbering system to the file name as in previous versions of my old Expression scanner however it only took a couple of seconds to delete the number in the file name.
Looking forward to trying out the negative and slide features.

Great scanner for cost. This review is based on the fact that I've only used this scanner for film scanning.
Pros: High resolution scans resolve fine grained films; Easy to setup and use; low cost compared to similar scanners.
Cons: Flatbed scanner is a static dust magnet, making it extremely difficult to keep dust off my scans; dust removal feature is mediocre at best; film carrier is flimsy plastic and I don't expect it to outlive the scanner.
Overall, 4 stars, largely due to the low cost, but the overall quality of scans (given dust and whatnot) is suitable for only web posting and contact sheets.

A Belated Surprise!

I bought this scanner in 2006! But my Epson 1640 SU Photo scanner was working so well with my G4 powerbook that I continued using it and then exporting the photos with an external hard drive to my MacBook Pro and thence to Photoshop. Today, however, my e.h.d. would not show up on the desktop of my G4, so I regretfully unplugged the 1640 SU and brought out the V500 Photo and installed it directly into my MacBook Pro.
Although I was slightly annoyed that the new scanner would not launch directly to Adobe Photoshop, as the old one did, once I installed it and got it running, it took me about an hour to figure out the benefits of the new features (The hardest part was connecting the proper plugs and putting them into the proper holes on the scanner). The directions in the package were sketchy, but the online material is excellent.
The V500 Photo has made my life so much easier. It is extremely light, and it scans fast and clearly (it has an excellent unsharp mask), and is much simpler to use than the older version. I like the options to choose the dpi resolution. It's different than the old one, and (until I discover the method) I have to drag my photos into CS5, but the results are great! My next task is to figure out how to do slides (being used to the old Epson Twain, on which I must have scanned 1000 art history slides!). I'm looking forward to the discovery.
So far, the appropriately named Perfection V500 Photo scanner is living up to its name. In fact, I feel a bit silly for waiting so long to get it up and going!
