Epson V500 photo scanner
on March 23, 2011

I purchased my Epson V500 photo scanner to scan slides to jpeg so I could put them into a DVD slide show for my friend. I had a top end scanner from another company that did slides and negatives. However the quality and detail can not compare to the Epson V500. This is the first Epson product that I ever owned. The software is great, fast scanning with the LED light and very easy to us. I would recommend this scanner to anyone who wants a quality scanner with ICE technology or removing dust and scrathes from photos. This is the best scanner I ever had.

Good but slow

The scanner is very simple to set up and inialize. The results are excellent. However this scanner is quite slow. If doing many photos or slides, consider the V600 which I believe is a faster model.

Love it!

"When I first opened the scanner, I was a little worried by how light weight it was and how "flimsy" it appeared as well as with it's accessories being made out of light weight plastic.
The scanner's software is easy to install on the computer as well as synching everything up. It's a little confusing how to change settings from photo scanning to film scanning but can be figured out with some patience and playing around with the machine.
The quality is really good but if you change the scan quality to above 300 dpi, it takes a while to process.
When scanning film and inserting it into the plastic scanning holder, I wish there was marks where each negative should align at. Some of my negatives once they were scanned into the computer had border marks which was a little annoying because it's one more thing I need to edit in Photoshop.
Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase!"

Not as easy as advertised

When I first decided to invest the money in a scanner to digitize my very large collection of photos, the Epson series really got my attention with the advertised photo restoration capabilities etc. However, out of the box, this is not as easy as it is made out to be. There are a number of settings to fiddle with, and inevitably, my photos do not end up looking like the preview photo when scanned. Needless to say this has been a very frustrating process to date.
If there was a better tutorial about what the settings were, what they did and why the pictures do not match the previews I would definitely give this a 5-star rating.

Epson 500 Photo Copier

I Installed the software, followed the instructions to the letter. When I attached the cables, the installation went over really nice. I had nothing to do but watch. I'm happy with the quality of the finished scans, and the automatic detection feature. I'm still exploring this GEM and I am happy. So far I have nothing but praise for this copier. Thanks. Bill

V500 Photo Scanner

My old 4180 Epson scanner died after much use. The new V500 is very similar, easy to set-up, remember the blue tabs under the lid. The V500 is faster with higher resolution. Epson photo scanners are great, use it mainly for old negatives and color slides and results are better than the original pictures.

fast and easy

I checked in to purchasing a scanner to save money on phone bills from faxing documents. Epson was among the highest rated scanners on the market and now I know why. It was fast and easy to set up with one button scanning. The unit is a little noisy but I can live with that. The size fits my work space and is easy to open and close. I have a lot of photos and negatives to scan in the upcoming future and I am sure this unit will fit the bill.
