This is my 2nd Epson scanner. The software is very similar to the older version so the transition to the V500 has been easy. I am pleased with its ability to scan at a high resolution as it allows me to enlarge files post scan for high quality printing. I used the V500 for the first time last night and it easily handled the various settings and the copious scans.
My previous scanner lasted quite a long time and I am sure the V500 will be as durable and reliable whether you scan occasionally or do high volume scanning. I certainly recommend it to anyone who needs high res results with a durability that will keep you scanning for years to come.

Epson V500 photo scanner

Scanner works very well.
For many years I took photos of cars and airplanes that I thought I would never see again. Now I can find better photos on Google Images, so time to purge.
I have about 65 years of slides and negatives to sort/toss/scan. So far.......so good!

BY FAR THE BEST SCANNER I HAVE EVER BOUGHT AND USED. EASY TO SET UP. VERY EASY TO USE. NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. LOTS OF GOOD FEATURES. USE IT TO COPY OLD PHOTOS INTO DIGITAL FORM. COPY ALL MY BANK STATEMENTS AND CREDIT CARD BILLS TOO. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT AND WOULD BUY ANOTHER ONE TOMORROW.

User manual

My main problem with Epson and the V500 scanner is the lack of a printable user manual, or having a printed manual supplied with the product. Operation of the scanner is very elaborate and having to refer back to the online user manual while trying to scan is a serious consumer disservice.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

so far so good. scan is nice on medium format. the inserts for film are a little cheap, but they work for me right now. i have only tried b&w so far. the only issue the directions and advice are very vague. not much help. need to expand on the "tips for best results"

Easy to Use with Great Results

The V500 Photo Scanner can be used by a computer novice and get great results. Was amazed at how simple scanning photos and slides could be. The color restoration is terrific. Photos taken in 1977 restored and look like they were taken today. Automatically stores your photos in "Pictures" on your computer. No need to search to find them. Or you can locate them anywhere you wish.

The V500 scanner has tremendous features and capabilities. My only negative comment would be the difficult software installation required. I was unable to install the software, so had to take my computer and scanner back to my computer store for installation. Otherwise, the scanner should meet all my requirements when I gain some comfort and experience in using it.
I would recommend this to a friend!
