Unravelling the past

When I cleared out my father's effects on his death I found a box of old negatives dating from the 1920s through to the era of slides in the 1960s. I could not bring myself to toss them out so have had them in a drawer for the last 20 years or so. As I am now deep into family history and have very few photograph's of my father's family I have always wanted to see what treasures the old negatives might yield. The purchase of the V500 has now allowed me to access them in a quick and painless way, scanning and storing them takes only a few minutes-finding out the 'who and where" of these photos will take considerably longer. I should mention that the early negatives are very brittle and have to be treated with great care but so far I have been able to retrieve a very acceptable quality of image.
Now if I only knew who that young lady was who was with my father in the long grass? It certainly was not my mother!

V500 Photo Scanner

This is aqbsolutley the perfect scanner for bringing older film based pictures into the digital world. The auto fix features made my old pictures look like they were recently taken.

V500 Photo scanner

I purchased this scanner 2 years ago and have scanned hundreds of pictures and several thousand slides and negatives(color/B&W) and found it to do well for the price. If you want professional results you need to spend professional money. It has worked on XP and 7 with no problems. I use the professional mode and like the control it gives you.
One of the problems I found was no carrier for the 126 size film. It can be scanned, but it is a pain. I have scanned 110,35,126 and 2.25x2.25 negatives,color and B&W.You can get some great results from suspect transparencies,but prints look out of focus. As I have learned more I have gotten better, but a bad negative is a bad negative.My scanner died yesterday, just went off and will not come back on,power supply is OK. I am now looking at the V700 or V750.

Just got it out of the box but I have already gone through photo, transparency and negative scans and so far it looks like the cat's pajamas. I especially like being able to scan up to 4 slides or 12 negatives in one pass. A little disappointed that the Adobe software is out of date by two upgrades.

Good Buy

Scanners have come a long ways over the years and Epson continues to provide excellent value.
The V500 Photo Scanner doesn't let you down. The software it comes with is easy to use and with the scanner, provides you with a scan your will be pleased with.
It's not lightning fast but that does not matter. I'm not churning out scans but have the occasional need during the week for a couple.
I've only run this for two days but so far have not found a hitch.
I would recommend this to a friend!

old slides

the slides i have are about 30 years old and some of my pictures are 35 to 40 years old . the copies from the epson v500 photo are very good and i now have them on my computer to save forever . i can now get rid off piles of old slides thanks to ebson.

I replaced my old Epson 1240U Photo with the V500 Photo because drivers are not available for Windows 7. Epson seems to be a bit slow releasing drivers for a new OS.
Anyway, I'm glad I bought the v500. I have, in the first day, scanned photo's and some old slides. The clarity is very good. The software recognizes the format of your scan object and you have to do nothing but click on scan. The scanner is very easy to use, fast and has great print quality. Software loaded without a problem. For the money, I would recommend the V500

Have used this scanner to copy old color and older black and white photos. It has worked like a charm. Colors much better and details sharper than with the printer/scanner. A little Photoshop editing and prints ordered came out beautiful. Have many plans for scanning negatives and slides, when I get some time, and am hoping that they come out equally better than what I got with a regular separate slide/negative scanner. I don't know what the other Epson scanner models are like, but I've been really pleased with this V500.
