Perfection Acheived!

At first use, I was simply amazed by the high quality of the scans, as well as the versatality of the scanner.
And then I discovered the "professional mode". Wow!
I use it routinely for scanning negatives and transparencies of stereographs, both recent and antique. I also scan archival printed sterograph cards routinely. Many of these present challenges due to preservation artifacts, but correction solutions are easy to find.
Non traditional applications, such as the scanning of geological specimens work great!
The provided software loaded without incident on all of the computers where I need it (this is a rare occurence).
This is truly a quality product.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Amazing and Impressed

Had bought a scanner for my folks for Christmas 2010 to convert their 40-50 year old slides and the results were poor to say the least. Having decided to do it right the first time, did some research and decided on the Epson V500. Just purchased it this morning from Staples and I am amazed and impressed with the results. Results are clear with great color and tone, and truly amazing. Looking forward to getting them all done, make dvd's and give them to family members for future gifts. Some of the reviews I read when doing my research noted a con to this device being it takes too long. While it does take time, the results make up for it! Would recommend to Epson to find a way for their future design for quicker way for customers to replace the slides. Seems a bit antiquated with having to lift the plastic slide console to remove the slides right from the scanner glass top and then have to replace the plastic slide console and then place the new slides to be scanned. Otherwise, would rate this scanner a 4.8 out of 5.0. Almost perfect!

Epson Perfection V500 Photo Scanner

Got this to finally scan the slides I took over 40 years ago. It works great!! I decided to remove the dust myself and use the automatic feature instead of the many options for improving the quality of the product. This way I can get them scanned more quickly and enhancing the results, if necessary, is something I can do with a photo editing program at my leisure. A great scanner for such a reasonable cost.

Once I figured out how to scan negatives...it worked just great. I found the directions that came with the scanner very sparse and I had to look up information on the manual I downloaded onto the computer. Somewhat frustrating at first and I almost had to phone the support line, but with a little research in the manual I figured it out. Once I was able to scan the negatives I began playing around with the settings for quality. Still working on that but so far, I am very impressed with the quality from an old negative. It will be great to keep all my photos together in one place.

I really hadn't realized how much better scanners had gotten unitl I couldn't get a driver update for my old one. I loved it, but this is so much faster, with better imaging on every level. It's priced right for the home hobbiest, but gives results like much more expensive machines.

The Epson V500 Photo Scanner works really great once you get the hang of it. I really think it would work better if the tray that holds the negatives had dividers so as to not confuse the scanner. The only problem that I have encountered is on some of the scans part of one picture will be attached to part of another picture. I had another unit which had dividers and it worked alot better on picking out each individual photos. Other than this one issue the scanner works really great.

Recently purchased this scanner for working on photos for family tree collection. I love the LED, scans much faster, no warming up needed. The software works with ease and the picture restoration tool is awesome. I did not want one of the all-in-one machines because i needed the better resolution which you can only get with flatbed scanners. Thanks Epson!!
