Epson Perfection V500 Photo Scanner

I actually bought this scanner to scan necklaces that I make. It does a great job doing that as it captures detail that is also away from the glass. I can then tweak it if I want to with the options. So, if anyone also wants to do some 3D scanning, this will do it nicely

Frustrating

I wonder if this will ever work. Vista drivers were not included in the software. The website has several files with no explanation if some or all of them are needed.
Some of them seem in install on my system, some transfers end without any message of completion/failure.

When I was ready to purchase this product, I read the reviews and they were all super. That is why I purchased the Epson Perfection V500 Photo. It is easy to setup. The directions are clear. I am enjoying it so much. I would recommend it to anyone.

A good scanner, quick with good results. Resolution is fine for small photos, etc... A4 size max.

Thought I needed the highest dpi/res scanner...

...but realized I probably didn't need to spend the extra money--the 330 would have been perfect for us. We purchased this for home use--to scan in decades of photos and to create a paperless house. I wanted a scanner with high res/dpi, so we went for this one vs the 330. I consider myself pretty savvy tech-wise and the "Start Here" guide was pretty intuitive and lead me to the on line user guide to understand all the scanning modes, etc. After playing with each different mode, I learned that I didn't need to spend the extra money for the higher res/dpi--it wouldn't let me scan in pictures higher than 300 anyway in the "auto" or "home" use--and since I'm no professional, I wasn't going to start figuring out all the "professional" use info...WAY too intricate for me.
Additionally, it comes with Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 and there's NO information on the "Start Here" guide about it AT ALL--so you're on your own with that one. Took me two days to find the serial no. to register it. You'll find it on the back of the CD sleeve, btw. Maybe I'll feel better about this when I start playing with Elements and possibly give this a better review if Epson had added an extra page in the box to explain this software.

The Epson V500 is an excellent machine. I have only one small reservation, to do with software. It would be nice to be able to choose a destination folder for the scan.

I researched scanners and this was the only unit I could see that I could reproduce B & W negattives in 35mm, but also to to do larger format (2x2) negatives. As a photo jounelist in the 1950's to 80's covering motor racing I am getting requests for old photos. So it was either set up a darkroom, of which I had no space, but to convert to digital.
Using the scanner is fairly simple, but from that point the Adobe softwear ls a challenge for a not too computer savy senior.
I had a slight problem wth scanner in it occasionaly refusing to do a scan after I changed the negative carrier. There probably is a way to correct this, but I just ended the computer program and then re-opened it and everything worked fine for the next hour or so.
