My Epson Perfection V500 Photo scanner was dead on arrival.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Just scanned a faded anniversary picture of my grandparents from 1976. The picture had faded pretty much. I turned on the color correction. The color correction added more color making it a lot better than the original. However, I was expecting more color.

Ubuntu 10.10 64 Bit

I don't know other brands of scanners or printers do Linux. But this scanner works with Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit no problem. So I am sold. The only complaint I have is come on the negative holders got to work better than that. It's a struggle to get the 2 strips of 135mm negative to lay flat and behave. The same with the 120 film holder. And of course dust is always a problem but that's a given and understood. Just work on the negative holders, make them better.

Found the scanner like all the products that I buy from Epson to be not of any value the constantly are unable to function I would not offer this product to anyone else
not it time to see how fast they refund my funds so I can go and buy a scanner

It does what I wanted it to do. Scans negatives and slides better than my other scanners. Ice setting is great. I recommended this to 3 others already.

Great scanner

I purchased this scanner for old photos. I am very pleased this this unit. It is not the fastest scanner that I have ever had, but that is because the resolution is to high. My computer is high end, and I feel that at least a middle model of computer is required for high depth. For the money the scanner is top notch. The instructions are all online, and some people feel they are inadequate, but if you understand scanning and photo editing terms they are fine. I feel it is not Epson's responsibility to educate people in scanning photo techniques.

The scanner works great so far. The holder for the medium format film is not big enough. It can only scan one negative at a time. It would be nice if you could scan two or three at a time. The features are great and the setup is easy to do. I would recommend this to a freind.
