I had a choice - spend less money - hope for quality - continue to question myself. In the end I decided to select the V500. It was easy to install and my first scan went through PERFECTLY. The combination of the Epson V500 with the Epson 1400 Printer - WOW. I'm looking forward to the future with great optimism with what I want to do with this equipment.
the V500 scanner has a problem with scanning negitives. I just won't do it. It gives error messages such as lid not closed or no response from scanner. This on a windows 7 operating system. I haven't tried it on my Vista OS lap top yet. This thing should work right out of the box. Doesn't Epson do their own beta testing?
The Epson V500 Scanner does a wonderful job in reproducing all types of media. I have scanned black & white & colored photos, slides, & 35mm & 120 negatives. My only complaint is I would like a Hard Copy Manual with an Index. It took 3 or 4 days of bopping back & forth on different computer screens & the scanner trying to find the right information to complete all those tasks. I ended up mostly using Trial & Error methods to carry out any projects because of Lack of Knowing the right word to find anything on Help. In fact Google Help was more useful.
I read plenty of reviews on photo scanners so I quizzed the store tech person before I made this purchase. I followed the instructions and the installation was perfect. By now the Windows 7 concerns are all addressed. It was so simple to set up and start using. My friends were amazed at the low price of the equipment. I think it is great! I've only begun and I do have some older photos so I still have alot to learn but I am very satisfied with my purchase.
This is my second Epson photo scanner . I bought the V-500 as an update from my 2450. I'm not crazy over the way the software handles slides. I would rather the scanned slides showed as individual photos in the selected folder rather than as one job and then having to move, and separate or print from the software after I'm done scanning. The software from my old scanner did this. Everything else so far has been good.although I have only had the V 500 for a couple of days.
My first experience with a scanner. I have a mac and had to find one compatible. I basically plugged it in and started scanning! It was so EASY! I just got done putting my first batches on the web on a family web site. Great scanner. I can't wait to scan more! This scanner was recommended to me from a cousin. I couldn't be more pleased...great job!
