Pencil Drawing Scans

I bought this mainly as a device that I could scan my pencil drawings in at a higher resolution than I could get at my local copy center. I was very impressed with the quality reproduction of the scans and the auotmatic features the software has to adjust contrast, etc. The resultant digital images are crisp and give me a great digital representation for my drawings that I can then upload to a website for friends to see or email. I also did a scan of a color photo that I wanted to work from, blew it up 2X, and chose a grey scale output of a photo I wanted to draw. The detail was wonderful and it allows me to do a 2X drawing of the photo much easier. I haven't used the film negative feature as of yet.
Operation is simple, seemingly foolproof, quiet and fast enough for my purposes. I was surprised at the images you can get at even the lower scan resolutions that the scanner offers.
I needed a replacement for my old scanner that would scan photos, slides and negatives with excellent quality and high resolution for large print reproduction. It also had to work with my Windows x64 O.S and twain in Photoshop. I also required a small footprint.
I had no trouble with installation and setup. I did have a minor problem with finding the user quide but after going to the on line help I found it and was able to put the link on my desktop for quick reference.
I find that the V500 is fast, quiet and produces photo reproduction with super quility. The Digital Ice also works very well removing dust marks on slides.
This scanner was recommended by a friend who is very knowledgeable about such things. He used it to scan all of his pictures so he could make photo cds for his children. I am making a photobook as a gift and my printer, fax, scanner was too slow. This scanner is great and if you put more then one picture on the bed of the scanner, it will scan each one separately. What a time saver!!! I would definitely recommend this scanner.
1. The cable from the top of scanner to bottom of scanner comes out too easily, when you don't want it to. 2. The software program exits after every scan and has to be restarted. Very annoying. 3. On scanning film color negative, it aborts when it says "unable to save file". Very annoying and renders the scanner unusable for film. 4. The software program doesn't remember the settings when using the button on the scanner instead of starting the program on the computer.
So far after a few days I'm noticing my scanning results are superb when it comes to scanning medium format film but my results are a little lackluster when it comes to 35mm. I haven't hit a on great combo for scanning 35mm the scans usually end up rather noisy but it could just be a feature of the film, lighter shots seem to have less noise so far from my experience. Also the unsharp mask setting in the scan software is far too strong even on the lowest setting but I myself am having a hard time finding the right balance between sharpening and noise when trying to apply a lighter level of unsharp mask myself in photoshop. Also the film scanner for MF seems to be a better design than the one for the 35mm scanning although it will only do two shots at a time but when it comes up with such good results that's not a huge problem. So if you have a Holga then this is a great way to scan your negatives!!!
I tried to install the V500 scanner two days ago, and got the same error message as on my old one, a 1650. But maybe the problem is my UBS hub. I'm going to attach it directly on my computer.
I thought upgrading would help, but the story is not yet complete.
Great product!! I bought this to reproduce some old slides and negatives I have of when my children were young. This scanner does a great job of this. I have finished all the slides and am working on the negatives now; with great results. The product is very easy to setup and use.
