A great buy

I found the Epson V500 scanner very easy to use. I'd been struggling with another brand scanner for my slides, and the Epson is very easy to use. It's much quicker to use than my other one. I'm so glad I purchased this scanner. It was very easy to set up and use.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great negative scanner

I purchased this V500 Scanner in May of 2008 and am closing in on using it 5000 times. I inherited 3 generations of negatives and photos.I had a 3490 Epson scanner but needed a scanner for larger negatives and found the V500. This scanner is wonderful.I scan in the 400 dpi range and it is flawless everytime I use it. It is user friendly,get great results and will be able to distribute the results to family members. I am scanning alot of negatives that are 2 1/2''X4 1/2''and also 2 1/2"X 2 1/2".This is why I needed this scanner.The light bar is wider then the 3490 model which gives great results for the price.
I would recommend this to a friend!

V500

This scanner works very well as long as the scan resolution is 3200 dpi and below. I found the scans from my unit, were fair to poor when using higher resolutions with both the included and third party software.
The scanner is advertised as a film and slide scanner, but because of higher resolution problems I would not recommend it to beginners.
Software updates (to the third party software) improved the noise issue in higher dpi scans.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Medium Format Positive Film

We just bought this scanner to scan some (LOTS) of medium format slide film. It was very easy and QUICK to install (as close to Plug and Play as you can get when you have to install software), I did not use a manual (other than the Quick Start guide), the scanner scanned quickly, and we got great results! We have also scanned photos and 35mm slides with equally good results. Since it would have cost us $1.50 per image to get them scanned somewhere else, our scanner paid for itself in a week! The only "problem" I had was in figuring out the way to make it scan the appropriate size for our medium format film -- and that was just because I did not know what 6X6 was (m, cm, inches....) -- but that is my OWN fault, Epson's. Bought it online with free shipping and a rebate -- THANKS!!!

An Outstanding Product

It's truly a pleasure to buy a product that does exactly what it is advertised to do. The Epson V500 is that product. All I wanted was the ability to scan old color slides without losing image quality. The V500 has exceeded my best expectations. Out of the box to full operation took less than an hour. I would highly recommend this product to anyone with the same needs.

Slide Scanning

With the built-in slide scanning capability, Epson has nailed Slide scanning. I have had two different dedicated Slide Scanners. Both have done a fair job; however, V500 provides accurate colors faster than either dedicated scanner. The Slides I am scanning are from my wife's collection of the early 1980's which have some color deterioration. Using Photoshop Elements <Auto Color Correcdtion> I get super good images.

Extremely easy to use

This is an incredible scanner. I used it to scan pictures which were used in a publication with incredible results. Though easy to use I had to email Epsom helping me with slide, positive film issues. Not really an issue but Epson responded back with detailed instruction and the rest was a walk in the park. I'll need to look for the manual as I have not located it in the CD included in the package. Maybe an instructional DVD would be in order.

Repeated repairs needed

The scanner makes good scans when it works, however the scan head has failed twice. Costing me a combined $70 in shipping back and forth twice to get it fixed, even with the warranty
