Easy to use and satisfied with results, however
two problems I have encountered:
1. I lose connection with my computer during use and I get a message saying I need to troubleshoot.
2. When I turn on my scanner,occasionally it will not start
and I need to play with the connections and restart the computer.

pretty good scanner

The Epson V500 Photo does a good job of scanning with several caveats. The included software is not entirely intuitive. The only documentation is on the included CD. The slide holder only holds 4 slides at a time.
When I had used the slide holder and then tried to do regular scanning I had to call for tech support to discover that I had had to unplug the top from the bottom of the unit to reset it back to regular mode. This is not mentioned anywhere in the documentation. The included OCR software works pretty well.
There is a definite learning curve with this unit.

I bought this scanner to do scans of old photos for restoration. It is excellent for that. I do wish it had better software with it but the included software will be sufficient. I have not scanned any film with it.

You won't be sorry

We needed to replace our old scanner with a new one and we needed a good scanner because we are a photo retouching and restoration business. I was prepared to spend much more than we did on this scanner. Fast warm up times. Fast scan times. True colors and very easy to use software. Best of all it is completely compatible with our Apple. We are very happy with this scanner.

Fast and accurate

I have been creating a family genealogy replete with scanned photos from the V500. The scanning is easily accomplished and the results are terrific. Photo Fix does a great job on some really old photos with limited color remaining. I most appreciate the resolution of the scanner for the some of the more recent photos with great detail.

This scanner is something else. I had another scanner of different manufacture before owning the V500 PHOTO. This scanner far surpasses the capability of the previous scanner. I have bee using it to digitize my slides and negatives with great success. And I use it to copy materials. The software is very easy to used. I would definitely recommend it to anyone that needs a scanner of this type.
