I am a big fan of Rob Thomas and Matchbox Twenty. I don't buy many CDs but this is such a good collection of their work, it was worth owning the entire CD.
What's great about it: All great tracks from Matchbox Twenty
I would recommend this to a friend!

I just listened to the new songs on AOL a day before the album release and they are excellent. The new song "I'll Believe You When" is just spectacular and catchy. My only complaint is there is not enough new material, I want more! Oh well, at least the second CD is a nice taste of their classics. I see Best Buy has two bonus tracks listed in their ad, but I only see the addition of "Bright Lights" on the pre-order, so I am still guessing as to the extra tune. My vote would be "Soul" if not an additional unreleased track or "Little Wonders" by Rob Thomas. All and all though, I can't wait to get my hands on this CD.
What's great about it: Great new material
What's not so great: Needs more new material

Matchbox Twenty has done it again. Not many bands can or do reinvent themselves with each new album, but Matchbox Twenty isn't afraid of going in new directions. Exile on Mainstream is their newest effort. Not only do you get 11 of their greatest hits over the last 11 years, but they've included 6 new songs that represent a new direction in their music including songwriting credits from all members instead of typical lyrics by Rob Thomas. This not only gives their sound a freshness but a first look into the untapped songwriting talents of members Kyle Cook, Paul Doucette and Brian Yale. A closer look at Exile On Mainstream EP portion includes:
1. "How Far We've Come" is the rockin' new tune reminiscent of REM.
2. "I'll Believe You When" is the country song they have never done. It's a jangly little ditty that's catchy and fun.
3. "All Your Reasons" is the typical Matchbox Twenty rock song. Great rockin' riffs with a chorus of "ba da da ba ba ba" gets you singing and rockin' at the same time. With lyrics such as "you're bad mood just ties my hands. Turns my cartwheels into headstands", Matchbox Twenty makes musical gold.
4. "These Hard Times" is the matchbox twenty ballad that would compare to "Hand Me Down" from "More Than You Think You Are" and "Ever The Same" from Rob Thomas' solo effort "Something To Be".
5. "If I Fall" is reminiscent of a U2 and/or Keane song.
6. "Can't Let You Go" is bluesy ballad that shows this band can do more.
The Best Buy version also includes 2 bonus tracks: "Remedy" by the Black Crowes and "Modern Love" by David Bowie. Although amazing live covers, to truly experience how amazing this band is with making cover songs their own, you must really see them live.
This band may have a new direction in music, but they continue to keep their songwriting sensibilities which makes this album a must have. Matchbox Twenty is back baby and they will be in the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame someday.
What's great about it: Six amazing new songs showcasing the band's new direction in music.
What's not so great: It would have been nice for a video retrospective as well.

Rob Thomas and the crew prove once again their incredible talent!!! All six new songs are amazing well written, and thought provoking. The old material brought back great memories. I know the other reviews were looking for more new material, but I think people missed out on the fact this was supposed to be their entry into the "Greatest Hits" arena. So, I think 6 new songs is great, most artists will barely take the time to put one new release on a "Greatest Hits" disc. Good job fellas, and can not wait till the follow up of all new material and hopefully a complete concert tour in support!
What's great about it: Great New Material!
What's not so great: Not a thing!

It's great Rob Thomas is with Matchbox Twenty again. The new tracks are great! The old tracks were a wonderful surprise. I didn't know Exile on Mainstream included a 2nd CD with great Mathbox Twenty tracks from their other CDs. Great price too. Very satisfied with this CD.
What's great about it: CD #2 has songs from previous CDs

Love the Cd. 6 News songs plus a greatest hits CD cant ask for much more. A totally new sound for a wonderful band. Cant wait to here more, and cant wait for the tour. Matchbox Twenty brings life to each one of the songs. How far we come is a very up beat song, to Ill believe you when brings that country feel. Its a mix that pretty much anyone can find at least one thing that they will enjoy. A+ for Matchbox Twenty.
What's great about it: Love the new songs and the old.. Great Mix
What's not so great: not a thing

This is a great pair of CDs by Matchbox Twenty. If you're a fan of the band, then you've probably heard all the songs on the second (greatest hits) CD, and you already know that they are all great.
There are only six songs on the first (new songs) CD, but they're all good. No filler! Usually there are at least a few songs on any CD that I skip over, but not here. I'd recommend this to any Matchbox Twenty fan, and anyone who likes really catchy pop-rock music.
What's great about it: New songs plus greatest hits
What's not so great: Nothing
