My parents bought me this vacuum for Christmas, and I love it!! I have two cats, and they shed like crazy, so this vacuum is awesome for me. It moves forward on its own when you turn it on, it has so much power. The different setting for bare floor, pet hair, and differents lengths of carpet is a great feature, and the turbo brush is awesome for upholstry. The power cord is so long I can do almost my whole apartment without having to unplug it. I'll agree w/ some reviewers that its heavy, but for someone like me in a one level apartment, its great! The only thing that could be improved is the fact that when you are using the suction hose/attachments, the floor brush doesn't stop rolling, so it rolls on the same part of the floor where ever it is standing over and over. However, the vacuum overall is so great, that it doesn't even matter. Def buy this if you have pets, you won't regret it!!!!!!!!
What's great about it: Super long cord, lots of power
What's not so great: Floor brush doesn't stop spinning when using suction hose

I had a canister Kenmore vacuum for the last 4 years, but it never seemed to pick up my pet hair (german shepherd & long hair cat), but the saleslady at Sears said it would work for a house with pets/stairs. It never got my carpets clean & even after vacuuming, I'd sit on my carpets & get up covered in dog hair. You could still see it all over the floors.
I started researching new vacuums last week because I decided I needed 2 things: 1) Something that could get my carpets super clean 2) an upright bagless, because the canister was a pain to lug around & I was sick of buying bags. Well, the Dyson Animal was the first one I looked at, but at $500, a little expensive for me to justify.
Then I read a Consumer Reports review that said "don't get sucked into the expensive ones". It led me to this vacuum, and after reading the reviews I figured I had nothing to lose, so I ordered it and got it home today. OH WOW. My carpets were FILTHY!! All the dog hair, dust, and dander this thing picked up was amazing. I had to dump the cup 4 times for my living room alone! And I'm not a dirty person!
The previous reviewers who said their carpets looked professionally cleaned afterwards were NOT exaggerating, they look as beautiful as the day they were installed (3.5 years ago). After vacuuming, I laid down on the carpet with my kids and when I got up, not one dog or cat hair on me...and I'm wearing a black wool sweater today!
Other posters have said it's heavy, I did not find it to be too heavy (no worse than my canister) but I won't be using it on my stairs, since they are wood & I can use my light, cordless, stick vacuum on them instead.
I'm so happy....My house looks sooooo clean & I think it even smells better. Thank you Bissell, you ROCK!
What's great about it: Incredible suction, gets the pet hair!

I bought this vacuum because I was sick of cleaning my roomate's hair out of the bristles on my green Eureka, and so far I haven't had to clean any hair out of these bristles! The first time I used this vacuum I had vacuumed earlier that day with my old vac, and I still got a full canister of dirt, pet hair, and carpet fuzz. The suction is AMAZING! And this doesn't seem to loose suction at all. In fact, the suction is so amazing that it sucks up my area rugs, and has even eaten some kleenex that was about a foot away. Over all I love this vac. Perhaps I'll purchase one for my mom! P.S. If you're looking for a steam cleaner as well, check out the ones from Bissell! I own one of those, and I LOVE it!
What's great about it: The suction power is impressive!
What's not so great: It's a little heavy, and doesn't have a lift handle like my little Eureka does.

To many times you see the comercials on tv that show a product that doesn't even come close to doing everything it seems to do on tv. You will not get that here... This vacuum is wonderful!!! I was totally happy with my older upright before I purchased the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser.. I only bought the Bissell because my wife and I recently added an English Bulldog to our family and my old upright did not have the means to vacuum the sofa where she loves to lay. The vacuum arrived, my wife started vacuuming the carpet just to see how well the new Bissell would work and almost instantly you could see the dirt and dust spinning around inside the bagless container!!! I could not believe my eyes.. Before the room was completely vacuumed, we had to stop and empty the container.. I was blown away, I lay and play with my children on this carpet!! We went from room to room and received the same results.. If you are thinking of purchasing a new vacuum, I know you will love the Bissell and acheive the same results as my Wife and I did!
What's great about it: Outstanding Vacuum!!! Does everything it claims to do!

For the value this is the best vacuum out there. I have previously purchased the DC17 Dyson (too expensive for what you get, it was easy to switch to the wand but to me not worth the price difference and it sucks just as well), the Bissell Healthy home (super duper heavy with no self propelling, and extremely hard to empty, you always have to use your hands). So after long reserach and product reviews i decided to opt for this vaccuum. The suction is superb, it sucks the dirt and sand right out of the carpet (even though i do not use shoes in the house). The vacuum is also easy to push and pull (i am a healthy 39 year old and i could not vacuum with the bissel healthy home). This vacuum is extremely easy to empy with no hands getting dirty. Now the cons: The brush bar never turns off (no button for it), you have to make sure that the basket is seated properly because it can be easly inserted inproperly. The section where you plug in the house can disconnect from the vacuum if you did not put it on tight, and the dust will go in your room instead of the canister. Besides these minor things i rated this vacuum a 5 star due to the price and value.
What's great about it: Great suction, easy emptying, self propelled

I purchased this vacuum last night at Best Buy in M.View. I decided on this model because I didn't want to spend 600.00 on a Dyson and the reviews for this vacuum seemed positive. The reviews were accurate. This machine is wonderful. The first time I used it, I pulled out five full canisters of dirt from one room in my home (gross-I've been living with this junk for a while). I would recommend this vacuum highly for anyone who want a clean carpet-just get ready to be shocked at the volume of dirt you thought your previous vacuum was picking up.
What's great about it: Amazing suction
What's not so great: Heavy-but not a major problem

I thought my carpets were clean. We vacuum several times a week and don't wear shoes in the house. This vacuum suctioned up so much dirt especially pet hair that we had to empty it several times in each room the first time we used it. The carpets felt smoother and different - even my kids noticed. This is the best vacuum I've ever owned. The price was reasonable and assembly was a snap. It is also not as heavy as some of my other vacuums have been.
What's great about it: Outstanding suction
What's not so great: Accessory hose could be a little longer.

After my wife's expensive filter queen seemed to quit working like it was supposed to I decided to start looking for a new vacuum. I was looking at a dyson since I had only heard good things about them but decided to do some research and read some reviews and boy am I glad that I did. We have two inside dogs that are shedding really bad this time of year so I was looking at animal vacs. Before reading the reviews here I was ready to drop $500 in a dyson. After reading the reviews on this vacuum I decided to give it a try since it was only $160 and that was with the extended protection. Assembly was very easy and overall I was impressed with everything that came with it. We had just use the filter queen a couple days earlier and I decided to try this vac out to see if it lived up to all of the reviews. This thing sucked up everything the filter queen left behind and then some. I had to empty the container twice just using it in the bedroom. If you are looking at a dyson consider this one for 1/3 the price you will be glad you did.
What's great about it: Great Suction, Excellent Price
