I've been using APC for years. This unit is hooked up to my TV and coax cable coming from my "roof top' antenna. I have never had a problem with protection for my equipment.
What's great about it: Good protection.
What's not so great: Don't know.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Did NOT protect against Surge

I replaced my ordinary surge protector with this APC UPS surge protector about 2 weeks ago thinking it would offer greater protection for my PC along with battery backup. Big mistake! We had a power surge today, and now my 1 year old power supply is ruined. My son’s CyberPower UPS handled the surge properly for his computer, but my brand new APC 750VA failed to protect my computer. My computer’s Antec TP3 power supply that I got a year ago has been zapped and fried.
I called APC and found that I will have to ship the UPS back at my own expense. Then IF they decide that the UPS was faulty, they will only reimburse the fair market value of USED equipment, NOT the replacement value. So I will be out a costly shipping fee (the UPS is heavy) and a good part of the cost to replace my power supply. Plus now I will worry that it will happen again.
I am very disappointed in the quality of this APC product and the deceptive equipment protection warranty that doesn’t live up to expectations.
What's great about it: Good outlet spacing, a lot of outlets
What's not so great: Did not protect my power supply
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I purchased an APC Back-UPS ES 750 (BE750G) on May 10, 2008. Since I had a blackout on 6/27, I figured I could finally write a review.
First, this is my first APC, as well as my first battery backup, product. I've owned a number of surge protectors in the past, but since I had purchased a new computer, I wanted to try a backup device.
After a deal of research, I finally went with this one, after the value for the money, and the positive reviews APC had received.
This model offers 10 outlets, of which 5 can run off of the battery. This also offers a master, and three 'slave' outlets. This means that if the master is off, the three outlets can optionally be shut off as well (helpful for printers, monitors, speakers, ...) It's optional, so you can shut it off (which I did).
It also offers a USB connection, so you can monitor the status of the battery using APC PowerChute Personal Edition.
Along with charge percentage, it gives the number of volts being passed into it, and the watt load on the battery, which seems to translate into a battery estimate (how long equipment can run).
PowerChute offers a couple of options, for when the power goes off - preserve the battery, or keep the computer on for as long as possible.
Having had a blackout, albeit at night, I can suggest what I had happen. First, my computer appears to have been put to sleep. When it started back up, SpeedFan began running my two fans at 100%. In short, the battery handled the blackout perfectly.
If you're worried about alarms going off at night, there are settings to disable the alarm between particular hours, or disable it entirely.
Finally, while this comes with a battery, they do recommend you replace these every three years. You can run self-tests manually to verify the battery. I did have a bit of trouble when first hooking up the battery, but it was relatively minor.
(As a guy who's interested in statistics, I would also have liked to have been able to pull more information from PowerChute - for example, via a battery log of what's happening when I'm not at my computer. Granted, it'll tell you when the battery kicks in, but I'd like to know what voltage is being passed, and whether usage watts are spiking or moving throughout the day. What happens when I'm running tasks, or if I have my computer sit for a couple of hours with the monitor off?)
Overall, I'm *extremely* happy with this product, and will *definitely* be purchasing another one of these to hook up my Playstation 3 and Sony Bravia.
What's great about it: 10 outlets (5 battery), handles blackouts correctly, flexible configuration
What's not so great: PowerChute stats aren't what they could be

The specs indicate this isn't compatible with Vista; the CD doesn't ship with Vista-compatible software, but it's available as a free download on APC's website. I pulled the plug on my fully-charged unit to see how long it would last running my cable modem and wireless router. I put my laptop on its own battery, and pulled-up an online movie . . . . I gave-up after 5 hours. This unit was still running strong, and claimed to have 2 more hours left. During the initial setup, you may need someone with small, dexterious fingers to connect the battery, though.
What's great about it: Super quick setup
What's not so great: Really hard to connect the battery!

works great with 24" iMac

Purchased this unit a couple of days ago. Connected my 24" iMac to it.
The unit comes with a USB cable to connect the computer to the UPS. The controls show up under System Preferences - Energy Saver . I am running OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard. No need to install the PowerChute software from APC.
Gave this unit over 24 hours to fully charge up, then I conducted some tests. With a 24" iMac and an external Hard drive connected this APC UPS was able to keep system running for about 30 minutes.
The UPS status can be set to show up in the Menu bar at the top of the screen. It can display just an icon, or % battery, or time remaining.
Under System Preferences - Energy Saver, you can setup shutdown options for the computer. In my test I set my iMac to shut itself down when 4 minutes battery time were remaining. It worked very well, my iMac took about 10 seconds to shutdown automatically. You can also have the system shutdown after it has been on battery for x minutes, or shutdown when there is x% battery life remaining.
So far I am happy with it. I suppose I could have saved a few bucks and went with the slightly cheaper model. I was surprised that it kept my system running for so long.
What's great about it: Easy to setup

This battery backup has the most outlets, as well as the most battery backup outlet (5), in the price range I was looking for, and all the other outlets such as telephone, network, etc are great to have. I also like the fact that it has the circuit breaker button, as well as well-lit status indicators. The software is a plus, it adds the ability to monitor from pc. The up to 70 minute runtime was also a factor in my decision.
What's great about it: 10 outlets, rechargable battery, quick set-up, equipment protection, 70-minute runtime, software
What's not so great: Instructions could be a little clearer as far as how to hook-up battery wire.
I would recommend this to a friend!

DOA, but probably not APC's Fault

I bought this in 2012-Sept to replace the same model BE750G from 2004, and even paid for expedited shipping. Unit was DOA, would not charge, gave constant alarm with "Battery is disconnected" error message. Battery did charge from 6V to 9V when UPS was plugged in but powered Off, so battery was not truly disconnected. Evidence showed it had previously been returned and repackaged. UPS Date Code was 2009-05-13, battery was 2009-04-26. Appears this unit had been stored in a warehouse for 3+ years without a battery charge. If these batteries are not cycled at least every 6 months they forget how to hold a charge. I suspect that a new battery would have worked fine in this unit, but Best Buy very graciously accepted my in-store return, refunded my full shipping charge and restored my Rewards points. Kudos for local Customer Service, sneers for improper warehousing of the product. Since these units are not stocked in stores but must be shipped from central warehousing, I would have expected quicker turnover, so perhaps this particular unit simply got pushed to the back of the shelf until inventory ran low. Another unit from another store with a recent date code 2012-March and a 2012-July battery has been working just fine.
What's great about it: Reliable when maintained
What's not so great: Beware of storage time

As to UPS for your valuable assets, APC devices are the best. I wish the price would be more affordable and the software supplied with the unit would include the Windows server version but it can be downloaded from the web site. I have tried other vendors but was forced to abandon their UPS due to failures and low battery life. APC is still #1.
What's great about it: reliability, features
What's not so great: price
