What's great about it: characters, dialog, voice acting
What's not so great: nothing
I don't know where to begin giving this game enough praise. If you are a fan of SRPGs, and don't have this title, you are missing out. It is one of the best ever made. From evil, irreverant characters, to the ability to level up to level 10,000, the game sets itself apart--goes above and beyond--in every way possible.
What really sold me was the characters. Most games have tired, cliche stories, with even more tired and cliched characters. Not Disgaea. In Disgaea, you wake up after your *loyal* vassal Etna tries to kill you, find out you've been asleep for two years, and that your father's other vassals have made a bid for his throne. So what's a demon prince to do? Kill, clobber, scheme, and steal his way to the position of overlord, of course. And that's where it *starts*. It gets even more twisted, evil, and impossibly funny from there...
Combined with stellar voice acting, this game easily lands in my top five favorite RPGs. I like it even better than the sequels.

What's great about it: Incredible amount of customization, could be playing forever
What's not so great: Maybe too much customization for a portable platform?
I love this game. You can create characters of specific classes, make them learn skills, and then, when you have gained enough mana by defeating enemies, you can restart them at level 1 with additional stats and a new class, if you so choose, as well as most of the skills they know. With this system, if you are willing to put the time, you can create characters who will be nearly unbeatable.
You can also customize items by entering each item's world and defeating enemies in it, progressing further and further down the item world. This will make the items more powerful, basically, while also earning your characters experience.
After being victorious in a battle, you can enter that battle at any given time afterwards, which is great for training. You could really spend hundreds of hours in this game. If that is not your style, simply complete the story. I am not through with it yet, but it is certainly intriguing.

What's great about it: Hilarious storyline, tough puzzles, lots of character customization, long play time
What's not so great: Recycled graphics and sound
I was looking for something to fill the void after experiencing the amazing Final Fantasy Tactics. Disgaea is a franchise that fans of Final Fantasy Tactics will surely fall in love with.
My first Disgaea game was Disgaea Hour of Darkness for the Playstation 2, so I was a little disappointed when I played Disgaea Afternoon of Darkness and found that it borrows almost everything from the PS2 game. The music is also rather dull, but I will confess that I have not acquired many of the music tracks available in the game yet. These were my only disappointments. Other than that, the recycled graphics and gameplay work very well for this game genre, especially for a portable system, and you will not be disappointed.
Disgaea certainly has a lot to keep you busy. You level up your characters, promote them to new classes, upgrade their equipment, and try to make them the killing machines they deserve to be. The battle stages contain puzzles you can solve to gain extra effects and bonuses. There is a quirky feature called the Item World where you can enter the "world" of an item such as a sword, fight the demons who inhabit it, and capture resident demons. And when you exit the sword's world, it will be upgraded depending on how many stages you cleared and certain other achievements. It is my understanding that the item world provides literally an endless amount of play time and difficulty levels.
Disgaea also has a hilarious storyline with memorable characters. Some jokes are targeted at a mature audience in a way that shouldn't corrupt kids or offend their parents. I have not beat the game yet, but so far there has been a considerable amount of story to progress through.
This game has given birth to a unique fantasy world and weird storytelling like I have never seen before. Talking exploding penguins? Check. Playing the role of a villain to conquer the underworld? Check. A jury which you can persuade by bribes or force? Check. All these factors give you the feeling that this game will end up being an innovator and a classic for the tactical RPG genre.

What's great about it: incredably addictive, unlimited playtrhoughs, great voice acting, can choose language
What's not so great: could look better
I can't say enough about this game. It is a great remake and should be played. It also helps you get into the Disgaea series. The grafics could have been better, but everything else outways that little fact.

What's great about it: Great port of the original
What's not so great: Ad-Hoc Multiplayer
This game is great!! If you are a fan of the genre, it is safe to say you've heard of Disgaea before. They did an awesome job porting this to the PSP while adding Etna's Story Mode to see how things would have turned out without Laharl to allow you to play through again if you wanted a different story. The voice acting is awesome and there is enough speech to allow you to enjoy the visuals. The game doesn't offer speech with every conversation but the main points in a chapter are done with voices which is a really nice touch. You can even level your weapons to increase your efficiency in battles, but increasing the weapon levels can be pretty challenging. With the geo cubes, it provides extra thought into the battles to keep things from getting repetitive.
If you like tactics genre you'll need this for PSP!
My only complaint is that the multiplayer is Ad-Hoc. Which means the PSP systems have to be close enough to connect to eachother... If the multiplayer were infrastructure (over the internet) it would be perfect.
Regardless of the multiplayer being Ad-Hoc, I still give this game a 5 star review because it's just a great port from PS2 to a PSP and offers an additional story mode.

What's great about it: anime, strategy, rpg, multiplayer, hours of gameplay
What's not so great: none really
This game is simply awesome. The characters, the gameplay, the plotline, the animation, the voices; it's all here. If you're a fan of strategy rpg's or anime for that matter, you must definitively give this game a run. And if you're a fan of both then you should already have this game, if you don't, then I am sad. :( *sad face*
