The whole alblum is based off the movie, this is one of those alblums that you should buy in stores rather then downloading it off the internet.

If your a REAL Jay-Z fan, from Reasonable Doubt to Dynasty to Blueprint and even Kingdom Come, then you won't need this review, cause you should already know that Jay delivers nothing but the best. If you expect the same JayZ you heard last album then don't waste your time. His style changes yet his delivery remains the same. It's Jay....over soulful beats, rapping about what he knows best...HIMSELF.
From beginning to end, track after track...just gets better and better. BUY IT, BUY TWO FOR THE COLLECTION!!!

Great CD to add to your collection. Even if you are not a Jay-Z fan and were not that impressed with his previous album, Kingdom Come, "American Gangster" is a must have. Jay-Z really stepped his game up on this album. The only thing I did not like, which really doesn't bother me was the remake of Track 10. The song would have been a lot better if he would've kept the original third verse along with Beanie Sigel instead of cutting the third verse out.
What's great about it: He really relates to the movie.
What's not so great: The remake of Track 10.

This album was surprising to me. After about 3 months of waiting for this album to drop, I finally got it and listened to it. I thought it was not going to be that good since Diddy's production group was doing most of the beats, but it turned out to be a good album. It all fits into the story of American Gangster and some of Scarface. Songs like American Dreamin', Success, and Fallin' go along with the movie. With songs like Roc Boys, Hello Brooklyn 2.0, and Igonorant, they are all very good to listen whenever with good beats and not too lyrical. Overall, the album is not as good as Reasonable Doubt, or The Blueprint, but it is up there probably in the 4th or 5th. Go and get it.
What's great about it: Good Lyrics, Good Beats
What's not so great: Nothing Groundbreaking

This album is better than what you wish Kingdom Come was. It feels like summer of '96 or '98 good. It's summer of 2001 Good. It's the Jay-Z from "I love the dough" The Jigga Man from "Big Pimpin" HOVA from "Izzo" and "Renegade" S dot Carter from "Come and Get Me" Hot Hov from "I just wanna Love Ya" and slick like a gato as ever like "Can't Knock the Hustle" It's like Jay is sayin "haha, fooled ya. I ain't lost a step."
What's your favorite Jay-Z album? It don't matter, this album is as good or better. What's your favorite Jay quote? It don't matter, you're about to have a new one. I'm tellin ya, Go out to your local Best Buy (drop by and say hi) and buy it. Buy 2 or 3. Cause even though you're gonna rip it and throw it on your I-Pod, you'll still cry if you scratch the disc. It's that good.
What's great about it: Old school vibe. Instant Classic
What's not so great: I wish the last 2 tracks flowed with the rest of the album

This easily one of Jay-z best works, Comes in a close third behind Blueprint and Reasonable Doubt. If you purchase it album look for a big pop radio hit then this not the ablum for you but if your looking for real good music, no popcorn water down make for radio garbage, well this is the ablum for you. Jay took it back to the streets but didn't over do it by trying to be too street.
What's great about it: Every Track
What's not so great: No major radio hit
