Reviews of products are of limited use when you have only had the product for 2 or 3 weeks. Of course it's going to work well. It goes without saying this player works well. I have seen other reviews that claim the player has very poor picture quality in longer record time settings. I have not found that to be the case. Picture quality is good enough in 4 hr record lengths, which is the longest I have done so far. Records on any type DVD except RAM DVDs. This is the first DVD recorder I have ever owned and it was easy to setup and install. For a first time owner, it seems to have a lot of features. But on the other hand, I have nothing else to compare it to. If this product continues to perform as it is now, I'd buy another one.
What's great about it: Price, setup is easy, does what I need it to do

This is my second Toshiba recorder. First one stopped erasing the discs after a couple of years so I had to buy a new one. The problem with the newer model is that you cannot watch one channel while you record another. I wish I would have known this before. I would not have purchased it. I am still thinking of taking it back and just paying more for a different recorder with a built in tuner I guess. Just recorded a program and it did record. Picture quality was good. Lets see how it recordsay daily soaps and my weekly programs.
What's great about it: price
What's not so great: Cannot watch one program and record another

I have only made a few recordings, comparing LP and SP modes -SP is much better with high quality input. LP does have signficant loss. There is no 3 hr recording mode: choices are 1 hr, 2 hr, 4hr, 6 hr. 4hr - LP would be OK for TV shows you don't care to save, but SP better for DVD's you want to save and watch on another machine.
Play back including purchased DVD's is good. Occasional HDMI output locks up when starting a movie and need to reload it, but usually fine.
What's great about it: Relatively easy to setup recordings, fast finalizing. Fine for playback as well
What's not so great: Manual is ok, could be better organized, but the information is there

My wife and I use this recorder to record the better movies after 11:00 pm. I have been using SLP record mode (8 hours). I was really suprised at how good the picture was at this level. I am using Memorex +RW disk. I am not disappointed with my purchase. If this product holds up you can not go wrong at this price.
What's great about it: Easy to set up, good picture
What's not so great: No antenna input and output to use with older T.V.

I HAVE HAD MORE THAN ONE PHILIPS 3400DVDR WITH WHICH I HAD MANY PROBLEMS. LIKEWISE WITH MY TWO PANASONIC DVD RECORDERS DMR-EA18. THE PROBLEMS I ENCOUNTERED WITH THE OTHER RECORDERS HAVE BEEN SOLVED BY THE TOSHIBA DVD RECORDERS.
What's great about it: SOLVES PROBLEMS I'VE ENCOUNTERED WITH OTHER DVD RECORDERS.
