This movie was highly anticipated because of the secrecy surrounding it before it's release. Personally it was worth it, I loved this movie, I'm not into horror movies and anyone who classifies this as horror is confused. This movie is a monster movie, lots of action and a good deal of suspenseful scenes. The whole movie is filmed on handheld camera and a lot of people hated it but I thought it worked perfectly and I liked it, overall this movie was something different and I loved it.
What's great about it: It's something unique
What's not so great: don't get too attached to the characters

A fantastic allegory about 9/11 that also works on a surface level as a great monster film.
Shot on a low budget of 25m it looks better than most blockbusters that cost many times that much.
It is shot with the camera work reminiscent of the tv show The Office, so if that kind of verite style bothers you, it might not be for you. But I personally loved it.
I've found that many of the detractors got too caught up in the media hype for it and didn't judge it on its own merits.
One of the many creative things about this film that I like is that you basically are told (warned) what happened to the characters in the very beginning. The joy of the film is the journey not any final twist or surprise ending.
What's great about it: Camera work, humor, plot, visuals, themes
What's not so great: None

all in all a decent movie in and of it's self. But as a blu-ray disk.. pretty weak.
I was expecting more for nearly three times the cost of the dvd.
What's great about it: edge of the seat action, new filming style, cheaper on dvd
What's not so great: grainy filming style doesn't lend to blu-ray, short, not many special features on the disk

Would give it 4.5 out of 5 and i am a fairly critical person. I would agree when they claim it is our modern day Godzilla. Today the original Godzilla seems very corny, but for what it was, what technology they had it was very good. One of the most debated aspects of this film was the fact that many scenes are shaky. This is one of the aspects that make it a great suspenseful film. J.J Abrams purposely shot it this way. As art patrons of films, (yes films are a form of art, or at least should be) we need to hold an open mind. Although this film is not completely original, the artist should strive for originality, and J.J did. Watch this film with an open mind, purchase it, and discuss this film intelligently... like how the monsters in the film remind you of the monsters in resistance!

I really liked this movie minus the constant camera movement, They kind of over did that throughout the whole movie too. It's a great move if you can put up with that shakey camera action. The plot was very good, very interesting movie with plenty of action.
What's great about it: the plot
What's not so great: the camara movement

Cloverfield takes off on the concept of "you are there" filming that we have seen with "The Blair Witch Project". It works, I actually feel the anxiety and intense confusion as the characters scramble to anywhere, trying to flee from whatever. The pods, eggs, or whatever they are, speed out of the night sky to hit Manhattan, taking down high rises and the Statue of Liberty. I question the actual scale of the Statue of Liberty's head, this head looks rather small when it careens into a Manhattan street. Where are the monsters? Why are they here? You do not see a monster/space alien until you get a glimpse of one while it peruses through skyscrapers. The scene depicting a woman "blowing up" behind a curtain at a triage makes no sense, again, show a monster!! The best and spookiest part of this film is the scene where "little monsters" or things with wings are infiltrating the subway and tunnels, chasing the confused and shocked characters to madness.
The ending to this film is very, very, scary. It actually saves the film, showing guess what..... an extremely large monster! The alternative endings are not that different from each other at all. Yes, "Cloverfield" is worth the buy, it is a scary nightmare I would not want to encounter at all. This film should scare you in some way or form.
What's great about it: Filmed as though you are there, feels like a living nightmare!
What's not so great: Not enough monster shots, exploding girl is for what reason?
