Real Gaming for the Kids

We received a LeapTV with games and accessories in exchange for our honest opinions. I was looking forward to trying out LeapTV, but as a family of gamers, I was expecting a toy that would be fun and educational, but not at all in the realm o the gaming systems we already own. We have high expectations for video quality, responsiveness, etc. I was pleasantly surprised. The LeapTV system has gorgeous graphics and controllers that, while chunky, have many of the same capabilities as high-end gaming systems. While playing the Jake and the Neverland Pirates game, it was like watching the show on TV, but with an interactive spin. My daughter, who is 7, couldn't stop giggling and dancing and singing along. The resolution and brightness on the camera is just fair, but good enough to interact with the game and enjoy seeing yourself on TV and certainly appropriate for the price point. We did have occasional issues with it recognizing our on-screen movements. Everything else worked beautifully. We can't wait for more games!
Pros: Educational, Fun for kids, Grows with child

The 8, 6, and 4 year olds loved it!!

Another win for LeapFrog! LeapFrog might suggest the new LeapTV for ages 4 to 7, but my 8 year old had a blast playing with their newest educational game system. We set it up when my 4 year old niece came over to play, and my 8 and 6 year old girls had just as much fun as the 4 year old! As a mom who is conscious of the ever encroaching toy clutter around this time of year, I had to do a little cheer when I saw how small and unobtrusive the gaming system is. No big, unwieldy plastic pieces that require their own shelf on the media center. Another plus? It’s super easy to use. The kids were able to figure out how to navigate between games soon after we took it out of the box. Set-up was a breeze, and the kids were playing Sofia the First and LeapFrog Kart Racing in no time at all. Nice graphics, although the sound was a bit off on the initial run…could have been our TV though. The system uses body motion as well as “pointer play” and classic “A and B buttons” to keep the kids playing while the motion sensor camera puts the kids right into the game! The kids had to answer some math questions before they could race the kart game. The games automatically adjust to the child’s learning level, which is pretty cool! While I limit my kids’ screen time already, I like that when they do have LeapTV time, they are generally up and moving. No sitting like bumps on a log, staring at a screen. This is a great Christmas purchase, especially if you have more than one kiddo in the 4 to 7 age range…they will love playing against each other…alongside some of their favorite characters! Well done, LeapFrog! *Received this to review, but all opinions are 100% my own! I do not endorse or review items that don't meet my standards!

Ok we are obsessed!! We aren't a gaming family but we love our LeapFrog products so I was optimistic and honestly, my expectations were blown away. My 3 year old loves it so much. I love that the controller converts to be used two different ways. My son is a bit hooked on Jake and the Neverlands Pirates so we haven't explored a lot of the other games for longer than a few minutes before he wants to go back to playing Jake but I love that they're educational as well as gets him moving. We are having a great time playing as a family and it's so fun for the kids to see themselves on the TV!! That's an incredible feature! All in all- we couldnt be happier with LeapTV.

MY BABY CAN READ
on March 3, 2015

My 2-year-old is reading up to 4 letter words. This is an absolutely fantastic product. It's the perfect compromise. The kids want to play games and I want them to learn. This is also great indoor fun and exercise. I let them play the sports or dance games before nap and bedtime. They wear themselves out while having a blast!!! We love you LeapFrog :)

As a mom, it is important to not only have my kids educate their minds but also to expand their body's health with exercise. LeapTV brings both of these together by keeping my kids moving and learning. With easy features to satisfy the "I wanna do it!" independence they crave to fun activities to keep their full attention. I highly recommend this for any family. You will also find everyone ends up playing. Even the adults!

Gaming fun for Preschoolers!

We are a family full of gamers. Our kids range in age from 18 down to 4. Our older boys love to play video games and the little girls want to join in too. Unfortunately, games made for the "big kid" consoles for little ones are often an afterthought and either do not play well or have weak content.
The LeapTV system from leapfrog is designed specifically for kids aged 3-8. Finally, my girls have a system made for them!
The LeapTV system has three play modes: body motion (uses built in camera, and does not require a controller), pointer play (similar to playing on a wii) and Classic controller (think "old school" video games.) The LeapTV controller is designed for small hands and has minimal buttons, which helps avoid accidental button pushing that leads to frustration. As a mom, I appreciate the small footprint that the LeapTV system takes up. It was easy for me to set up during the time the kids were in school, so they would have minimal frustrating time waiting for their game to set up. I like that there are over 100 game/activity titles available, as it gives relatives an easy to please gift for the girls. LeapTV also has built-in wi-fi that makes it easy to download games, which also cuts down on clutter. The games are easy and fun to play, and I like that the LeapFrog educational team is behind every product. My kids would learn their alphabet and math skills without video games, but having the game reinforce the skills they learn from preschool and for me makes playtime more educational. I am impressed by the game library with equal number of licensed characters and simply fun LeapFrog fun. my girls especially enjoy playing along with Sofia the First, and Jake and the Neverland Pirates. If you have more than one child, or frequent play dates, you will want to purchase the additional controller. (You also may find that you want to join in the fun!) The system comes with one pet game, but you will want to purchase at least one more game to keep interest high. Other reviewers have commented that kids will grow out of this system quicker than they will with other systems. However, it has been my experience that all video game consoles for kids of all ages have a 2-3 year life cycle before they want to upgrade or switch platforms, so this is really no different. I would recommend this as a Christmas gift for a family considering gaming for their young children. I've already recommended it several times in person.
*disclosure: I was given a LeapTV system in order to facilitate my review. However, all opinions are my own, and I was not required to give a positive review.

Fun, action-packed gaming system

One of our favorite brands for children has been LeapFrog. The products are durable, child-friendly and educational. We received a LeapTV to review and these are my honest opinions. My 6 year old was very excited to see how the system worked.
The system is easy to hook up to your TV. The controller has a wrist strap and it can be used as a wand or a classic controller with an easy swivel. The LeapTV is designed to get kids jumping, moving and dancing while teaching important skills in math, science and problem solving.
The LeapTV we received was pre-loaded with most of the available LeapTV games. My daughter enjoyed playing the Spiderman Game and the Disney Jake and The Never Land Pirates game. Depending on the game, children use their controller as a wand for pointer play or classic controller play using buttons with their fingers. Other games are motion detected and track your child’s body movements and their faces appear on the screen. The games get your child up and moving, and as a parent I enjoyed watching along!
I think the system is designed for a great range of ages and the games adjust to skill levels as well. Younger children can feel like they are included in the gaming process while also gaining better letter and number recognition skills. This is truly a great educational gaming system.
