At first the idea of watching the movie through a camcorder was a little annoying. The camera moved around a lot - I mean a lot! I about ready to say forget about it until the monster arrived in NYC. Turn your sound sound up and don't turn it down! You can feel the monster coming closer and closer. The camcorder made it feel like you were in the movie. If my surround sound was down, I wouldn't of enjoyed this movie! It really kept my interest in the movie. At the end of the movie - you wanted more! Hopefully there will be a sequel. After it was over - I took a deep breathe!
What's great about it: excellent story - edge of seat
What's not so great: too much movement of the camera.

This movie right from the start set the tone as something different, going with the first person camera view. The reactions from people where pretty realistic as to what people would do in real life if this happened. This non-stop ride keeps you on edge till the very end, this is what a Godzilla movie should have been, however I am pretty impressed with this movie and if they can continue the story I think a sequel is warranted.
What's great about it: Realistic, best monster movie of the 2000's
What's not so great: A little shaky but not as bad as other movies done this way

I loved this film in theaters, and now I get to watch it as many times as I want. If you liked it in theaters the DVD is great because it has several behind the scenes extras and Best Buy also threw in another disc of extras.
What's great about it: SPECIAL FEATURES. Cloverfield was kept under close wraps until now. The special features satisfy the thirst for more.
What's not so great: The transfer to home video loses the intensity of the theater experience.

This is a fun movie to watch but getting past the first 15 minutes is key. The "camcorder" camera work takes some adjusting but ultimately works in the end. This movie pulls you into the experience like no other. The Blair Witch Project used a similar technique but this is executed much better and the story is much more interesting and characters more likable. Keep a close eye out in the last scene of the movie, watch it in slow motion if you need to and you’ll know where the monster came from.
What's great about it: Nicely executed, cool concept
What's not so great: Camera work takes getting used too, a little short

I've heard lots of bad reviews for this movie. I gave it a chance though because I've found that a movie someone else didn't like, doesn't necessarily mean that I won't like it. If you watch this movie with an open mind and not be initially judgemental, I think you'll find it's a good movie too. Yeah it took a little too long maybe to get to the meat or heart of the movie but it wasn't that boring to me. The only problem I had of the movie was the character of Hud. He was pretty annoying and lame especially when shooting the party testimonials. I've heard that they didn't show enough of the monster but I kinda like how they did it. In fact I saw quite a bit of the monster so I don't know where they got that. Just give this movie a chance, I really enjoyed it.
What's great about it: The camcorder effect, the storyline

If you do get sick with shaky cameras this movie is not for you. For me it was not really a problem. It was a little slow in the beginning but as soon as the first explosion happens your on the edge of your seat. The story was great and i found myself turing in my seat trying to see what is going on(thinking if i turn the camera will move back towards the action). The first person view will pull you into the movie wanting to see every little detail. Don't listen to those critics that always bash movies like; no character development, no story, bla bla bla. If you want to see this movie but aren't sure if you really want it then go and rent it first. You shouldn't be disappointed in my view If you do buy the movie make sure you get Hud's Video Diary with the movie(its pretty funny). Hope you enjoy the movie!
What's great about it: Original story, draws you into the movie
What's not so great: Camera points at the ground during scenes you want to SEE!
