EF-S 55-250 STM

I bought this lens as a lightweight travel lens for shooting motorsports and wildlife photography on hikes. I wasn't expecting L series performance or even similar to my 50-150 f2.8 lens. What I've found after shooting approximately 4000 images with it on my 7D is it produces stellar images, color, crispness, bokha that's hard to argue. Canon has brought a stellar performing lens to market that's affordable for the amatuer and I for one really appreciate that!
Thank you very much Canon!

Good for the price

I bought this lens to use with a drumline. I really wanted some close ups without getting too close. I haven't looked back since. I've used this lens on everything from musicians to wildlife to cars and nature. It's not the brightest but it works. It does back focus from time to time. It's stm motor makes it great for video. The best thing by far is the price. It's no L lens but for somebody who needs a solid zoom range that's on a budget this is that lens. It always goes when I have my camera. Definitely wish it was brighter but then it'd get into higher pricing. Love this lens. It's not tack sharp but it's just under.

Great lens for the Rebel XSI
on January 28, 2009

I purchased this lens online about a month ago and it's been great. The autofocus and Image stabilizer work very well and the pictures have come out very clear and crisp. It complements the Rebel XSI w/ 18-55 mm lens very well. The EF-S lenses are specificially designed for cameras with the smaller sensors, so if you have a camera with a full frame sensor, you may want to stick with the EF lenses only.
Pros: Super-sharp images, Fast auto-focus

This lens captures sharp clear pic's, I shoot wild animals and this allows me to get close without disturbing them. It also is an excellent lens for Portraiture, I love it. I have the Canon Rebel SL1 with the EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens.

Great telephoto on a budget

About a year ago i had to sell my Canon 75-300 IS lens. I was totally surprised by this lens. A 55-250 Image stabolized lens? A Canon Lens. At first i felt it was too good to be the truth.Until I had the chance to used for the first time. Image stabolized system realy works ( i did as low as 1/15 of a second without tripod with good results), second works great for portraits (narrow depth of field). Focal lenth very usefull. Very light. What i do not like is a plastic mount and front (as well most of the structure). On the other hand i found only couple situations when this was a issue (someone drop the lens and cracked front plastic filter mount). Since this lens is mostly plastic it is also very light. It take a lot less space than older full frame 75-300 IS. Since it is easier to use I also use a lot moreen than 75-300 IS. Picture quality is also very good. I low light focus could be faster. 55-250 can be use with 2x teleconverter for combine focal lenght of 55-400 which more than any photo enthusiast will use in a lifetime (that is in APC CMOS conversion equivalent of 77-350, or with 2x teleconverter 144-700!!!). This makes this lens the only telephoto lens You ever need. Lets not forget a average price of $200, which is less than half of previous 75-300 IS. Now almost anyone can afford second lens. I think Canon is making a revolution in IS affordable yet still good quality lenses. No other brand comes close.
Pros: Super-sharp images, short minimum distance, is system, very light, easy of use, low cost
Cons: Poor build quality

Nice Walk Around Lens
on December 30, 2012

I got this w/ the T3i. I actually have no complaints about this lens at all. It delivers sharp images almost throughout. It is very versatile, and can shoot Macro shots, okay portraits, and ok zoom shots.
I personally do alot of outdoor photography, and this does pretty good, but doesnt zoom enough for Birds, deer, etc without getting pretty close. But for Macro shots, I have been enjoying this lens alot and was suprised that it could do so well!
I have already bought the 50mm 1.8 prime lens, which is perfect for portraits, and shows better colors and Bokeh in images. But my next purchase will be a better quality telephoto zoom lens to get a little more distance on my shots for further away subjects. Overall a Nice Walk-around/all-purpose lens. No complaints and love the IS!
Pros: Fast auto-focus, Super-sharp images

Verified Purchase:Yes
I bought this lens to supplement my 28-55mm lens on my Rebel T7i. I was amazed at how fast and quiet the focus is.
I’m an amateur, so I may not have the closest eye, but the lens really works well!

Quality Images at an affordable price
on April 30, 2011

I love this lens! I recently used this lens for a Bridal shoot mounted on my Canon Rebel T2i. I also used the 5D Mark II with the EF 70-200mm IS F/2.8 II for the same shoot. The Bride purchased two 16 x 20 enlargements, one from each camera/lens combo. When viewed side by side, there was no visible difference in quality in the enlargements. I highly recommend this lens as an inexpensive alternative to produce high quality images!
Pros: Super-sharp images
