Worked great for about 2 weeks, then suddenly I cannot turn off computer, printer, or disconnect printer without computer crashing. Happens every time now. Could be a Vista SP1 issue, but Epson product support has not been helpful. Online support specialists will only refer me to their FAQ webpage, and will not address the issue. Note: printer can be used independent of computer, but only for printing photos, no text documents. Buyer beware!
What's great about it: Prints great photos
What's not so great: Loud, ink runs out quick, makes computer crash

This printer uses smart chip ink cartridges, they only print a certain number of pages before they say they're empty, even if they still have ink in them (you can't refill epson cartridges either). It uses color ink to print in b&w (the option to disable this does not help). This printer is too loud to use if somebody is sleeping in the next room. You can buy refillable ink cartridges but you cant stop it from using color ink, and it wont print in black if the color cartridge in empty or removed. I spent $45 to replace the ink the first week I had it.
What's great about it: Looks nice, works good.
What's not so great: Uses smart ink cartridges. Uses color ink to print b&w. Extremely loud. Wastes ink.

I bought this and returned it- it's an awful printer! It didn't print right from the beginning- poor quality. After printing 4 pages, only one of which was color, it said that the printer cartridges were already low. It is RIDICULOUSLY loud- it actually woke the baby up! Scanned pictures also weren't very clear. While it may have been low priced, it's CHEAP and not worth it all!
What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: Loud, inefficient ink usage, poor scanning

I bought this printer since it was on sale and cheaper than buying the 6 ink cartridges my older printer needed. Not only did I get a better quality printer, I also got a scanner and copier. Some reviews say it's loud, well for me it is quieter than my previous Epson, and it also prints out a lot faster. Even though my other Epson used 6 cartridges the quality of the printed items comes out better on this printer using only 4. The other two cartridges were light cyan and light magenta. I also see that in a lot of the reviews people say it won't print if one cartridge is empty, well that's the way it is on a lot of printers, at work our $7000 printer does the same thing.
One nice thing I like about this printer is that the standard ink cartridges (69 series) are cheaper and they also have an alternative moderate use cartridge (88 series) and for black have a high capacity cartridge (68). So if you don't do a lot of printing, you can buy cartridges with less ink in them for a few dollars less and avoid the risk of them drying out.
What's great about it: Good all-in-one, prints fast, scans great

I bought this over 2 months ago. It was very affordable and it's easy to use. I have to scan documents every couple weeks & now I don't have to run to the post office or library every time I need to make copies! I have read other people complain about the ink running low right after they got this. I use it A LOT and mine still have ink! Also, I haven't had any problems with it being loud at all. Of coarse, I'm sure there are better printer/scanners out there, but for the price of this one, and the uses I need it for, I'm very happy with it.
What's great about it: Affordable. Great for home use.

I was going to buy an HP printer but decided against it due to the fact that i had tremendous problems dealing with tech support with HP in the past and their electronics, so I checked out the Epson printers and figure I give it shot and purchase one and I must say that it was easy to download the software (only 10 minutes), like the cropping feature for your photos from a memory card, the 2 1/2 inch screen on the side is pretty cool.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Bit noisy when you turn it on and off, no usb cable included

I am surprised Epson let this one off the factory lines. The first NX400 we purchased immediately started banding, so we exchanged it for another one. The second one was unable to recognize the cartridges, even though it was a brand new factory sealed printer with Epson cartridges. It was a good thing the problems happened immediately, though, because I wouldn't want to be stuck with this machine.
