I've had this device for a month now & I have nothing bad to say about it. The display is crisp and vivid and can play full HD content. The camera takes amazing pictures even in low light when you have night mode on; the camera has a variety of useful modes as well that are fun to play with and useful in many situations. The phone itself runs pretty smoothly with little to no slow downs in performance. Gameplay is pretty solid even with intense graphics. Overall I'd say is a really good product.
Pros: Bright display, Durable, Lightweight, great camera, fast performance, useful software features
Cons: speakers did not meet expectations, plastic build & design

I recently switched from an iPhone to the Samsung. I must say as a techie, the speed for me is faster, screen is bigger and the applications are basically perfection. This phone is basically my walking laptop. Picture is in great detail, like I have an HD TV almost.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight

My contract was up for a new phone. I had my eye for the iPhone 5S. I was a previous iPhone 4 user and never thought I'd look for another brand because I was perfectly happy with my Apple phone. A couple of my friends own the Samsung Galaxy S4 and I had saw theirs but not really looked at the phone enough to be wowed. After purchasing a Galaxy camera and saw the features it had it made me have a second opinion to my phone choice. I compared the iPhone 5s to the Samsung Galaxy S4 for a couple weeks before I had to my make decision. When I went to update my contract, I was told if I wanted to give the Samsung a try, I had 15 days to exchange it, so basically I had nothing to lose to try it. My husband went for the iPhone 5S, but I can honestly say he had a lot of thought after seeing my phone to switching to the S4. The drive mode that allows the phone number and texts to be read allowed while driving is such an advantage and to reply back is as easy as saying reply and your message or to call back the person. The only downside I can think of to my S4 would be the battery life, but with a 5 inch screen I knew that would be a factor, granted, the battery life is still very decent if I don't surf the web or watch videos a lot in the day. The next cool thing I can brag about though to the Samsung Galaxy S4, if battery life is a worry to someone wanting this phone, it has a simple open cover back to easily carry around more batteries for the phone if you are constantly surfing the web and on the phone. Not many phones have that feature, so I can't complain. I absolutely love my new phone purchase and couldn't be happier with this phone!

Cons: battery life could use some tweaking/minor issue

First time smartphone owner

I had to switch carriers and I finally decided to get a smartphone instead of a regular old phone. So the change was massive for me, but I am young and I was able to ingest it all. My mother is having harder time though. If you are familiar with samsung products you probably won't have any trouble adjusting. There is a learning curve, and it all depends on how familiar with technology.
The phone is great though, I was used to not having a smartphone so my battery could easily last a week I know that's not the case for smartphones let alone this one. I was pleasantly surprised that this could last 2-3 days if I turn it off at night, this was with moderate play time as well. The screen is great, I know some people have been saying there's too much saturation but it doesn't bother me. I am a little upset that the speakers are rear facing, but it is a minor setback. The camera's good enough, and lots of features to play around with as well as an automatic mode to keep things simple. The system by itself runs pretty smoothly, swiping through pictures and pages works great. It is fast.
Some of the major features for me were the fact that you can add memory with a micro sd card and the fact that you can replace the battery. The other major competitors did not have features as rudimentary as this, these things are important. Especially when the phone is already loaded with a bunch of things from the start. I don't know if the problem was specific to my carrier, but I purchased the 16 gb model and had only about 9gb free the day I got it. So the micro sd card was a must considering my music would take up a lot of that free space.
All-in-all the phone is great. I love it and have yet to have any major problems with the phone. Everything works smoothly and while a lot of the new features are gimmicky (like waving at the screen or scrolling with your eyes) you can turn them off if you please. I did because they were a little silly.
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight
Cons: the screen is hard to read in sunlight, there's a lot of apps preloaded onto the phone
