This printer has worked flawlessly since I purchased it. My only problem is that I tried to print photo's on it and was not satisfied with the quality of the finsihed product. Ended up printing them on my H.P Photo smart printer.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Poor Manual Printing

Does a good job at standard printing, both single and double sided printing. all though a little slow on the double sided printing. My biggest problem with this printer is the "Manual" printing. I use several sizes of paper and envelopes and when I use the Manual printing I constantly get a paper jam warning. It has gotten worse. I was able to get some printing done after paper jam warnings FOR EACH PAGE. Today I tried to print 10 envelopes and after 8 paper jam warnings on the first envelope I decided use a different printer, OKI. The Brother printer is my default printer because of the double side printing. I may have to change that.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Economical plus Quality

Two of us use this printer for heavy home use as well as volunteer activities. It has good print quality and we found it more economical purchasing laser rather than inkjet refills. We print forms, reports, newsletters, business cards, etc.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Good printer and affordable

Have been looking to replace an inkjet printer with a color laser printer for my wife, who is in the Real estate business.
She prints many 2 sided forms and also makes up flyers to be handed out to prospective buyers at her open house.
I was looking for quality and affordability.
I presently own a Brother all in one MFC 5890cn, and a Brother HL 2270 DW, b/w laser printer. Both have been trouble free for many years, so I decided to compare the Brothers HL-3170CDW, with others. I found that I could get the same features, but at a much higher price, or a lower price but give up feature. e.g. 2 side printing,
This Printer has printed with no problems. I even printed a 182 page manual 2 sided with no jams and didn't have to come back an hour later for an almost finished project.
My wife loves the simplicity of the printer.
The only negative thing that she has complained about, is the color red. They sort of look muddy and on the brownish side. (This is the only reason we gave it 4 out of 5 stars)
I have tried to correct this per machine instructions, with little results. Other than this issue, this is a great printer for home or small business. What's more important is, my wife is very happy.

Do not buy!

We bought this printer about two years ago. It has had light home usage. The fuser just failed and Brother will not stand behind what is clearly a defect because it is out of warranty. I understand warranties but a fuser that lasts less than 7,000 pages is defective by anyone's standard. It is supposed to have a life of approximately 50,000 pages. The part costs almost as much as a new printer. All I have learned from this experience is that Brother does not stand behind its products. I will henceforth take my business elsewhere and I would recommend you do so as well.

Simply said, it is superb, clean printing, clear images and text, awesome color, and no problems with paper misdeeds and so forth.
