This is my second Brother printer of the same model; we had poor life span from the 1st unit that lasted just over 2 years; not good. There was a non repairable printer error problem. Had to buy same new unit to save the investment in the printer cartridges.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Lots of features, easy to use!

We had an ink-jet before this and the ink cartridges were killing us in costs! And the color cartridge would use all the yellow before the cyan and magenta and wasn't always useful to "carry on". BUT, the Brother with separate toner cartridges is Great; even found how to see how much is left in each (from the front panel). It puts itself in 'deep sleep' to save energy - we don't have to worry about turning it off/on to 'kill-a-watt'. The options screen when printing a document is easy to use and follow and with more options than we had before (4 ways to do 2-sided). Besides the paper tray, it has manual feed for special paper/transparencies. It's Great, we Luv it!

Great Printer - Easy Setup

My first Brother wireless laser printer was purchased in 2009 and it is still running strong. Was easy to set up and have been through about 4 cartridges so a few thousand pages have been printed I would guess. We have a need now for color and full duplex printing, so after researching printers from different companies, I decided on this printer, one reason being the satisfaction with my first Brother printer. I have not been disappointed. The setup was very easy and fast. I did not need to connect any cables to the printer for setup nor have to do anything that requires much thinking. (This also due to advances in connection methods within the industry.) We have printed a few dozen color and double sided pages and the quality is excellent. The printer does have a large footprint, but that is normal for a full color printer I think. It also has the capability to print legal size pages as well as pass through for envelopes. Almost forgot, I quickly and easily set up my printer and cell phone so that I can print directly from my phone. Great printer at a great price. Highly recommended...

Great printer, but does not awaken from deep sleep

I purchased this printer so I can print wirelessly from all of my computers and devices. The output is great, but there is a little problem, the printer will often remain asleep when a print job is sent. This requires powering it off, and then on again in order to be able to print.
Brother had me ensure that the latest firmware was applied, and had me create a new TCP/IP port for a fixed IP address for the printer, but the problem persists. For this reason, I am not recommending this printer for wireless use.

Awful product with serious network issues

The printer prints well. HOWEVER I have had recurrent problems connecting it to our network. It self disconnects frequently . It goes into "deep sleep" frequently and can't be revived without unplugging it and often that doesn't work. Have to frequently reset the network connection etc etc etc. I HATE this printer. I will never buy a brother product again. Nearest service center is 4 1/2 hours away. Very helpful Also the printer won't print when the toner is "low". That is not the same as out. Not even near so that Brother can get you to spend more money on toner. There is a way to bypass that but it is not intuitive.

Unreliable setup and crumples paper when printing

The driver setup is very unreliable. On some computers the installation software has no trouble identifying the printer. On other computers, it can't find the printer. This comes down to a limitation of the software and device not communicating over the network when the device is connecting to, say, a 2.4 GHz channel and the software pinging only a 5 GHz channel. Finally, once the driver installs and you go to print, the device crumbles up the paper every time. I've tried different paper stock and live in a low humidity area so not sure what else could be wrong besides this device.
