I got fed up with the HP I had - it wouldn't connect to the network and required 3 1/2 hours on the phone with HP (I'm not exaggerating) before getting the printer to work. I had to do this 3 times in 6 months.
I saw the HL-3170CDW on sale at Best Buy and had good luck with Brother on prior printers so I bought it. WOW, am I glad I did! This printer is awesome, color & duplex printing with blazing speed plus it was a breeze to connect to my network and PC's. Printing from smartphones is a snap too.
You won't go wrong with the HL-3170CDW..... GOOD JOB BROTHER!!!!!

I have not had any problems with this product yet. It would be nice to have a copy or scan option on it . Much better than buying liquid ink for a printer every month.

Good printer

The printer works well. The wireless feature works well except that the Android app doesn't work with my Samsungs. The fuser on my unit apparently overheated and melted some of the rubber on the roller so I needed to replace it after about a year. I am a very light user and am on my third set of toner cartridges.

great value for a basic printer

Color quality is very good. Supply (amount) of ink that comes with the printer is more than I expected. I have been using it for 2 months and have almost 85% of my black remaining. It doesn't scan or make copies, but if you just want an inexpensive printer that is reliable it's great. It has not jammed or malfunctioned once.

Will not duplex

I like the printer but after reviewing the manual, emailing brother, searching for answer on the web, trying everything and I still can not make this printer duplex. I went through the wizard it seemed to complete but still can not duplex.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Another great printer from Brother

Very nice color laser printer. I have owned several brother laser printers over the last 20 years and they have been very dependable and cost effective both for the initial purchase and for the consumables My current main printer is a Brother MFC8860DN which is nearing the end of its useful live. I have always wanted(not needed) a color laser and the HL-3170CDW was a nice fit for my B&W printing and the occasional color that I would normally farm out. It will also extend the life of my MFC8860DN by splitting the my print jobs.
