Easy setup for Wifi

Setup was very easy, print quality is at about 95% or so. Depends on the quality of the paper used. HOWEVER, the cost of consumables is higher than I thought it would be.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great with everything except manual feed

This machine connected easily with my PC and portables. It does a great job in printing and duplex printing when the paper source is the unit's tray.
It is routinely hit and miss when I manually feed paper, card stock, or envelopes into the machine. Placing the object to be printed into the slot always causes the machine to "activate". Sometimes it then responds by drawing the leading of the paper into the machine, followed by printing correctly on it. Other times it fails to draw the edge in and then fails to print. Removing and replacing the paper once, twice, or more times may be necessary to get it to completely draw the paper in and print on it. Sometimes you won't feel it being drawn in....but it has been and then prints properly.
The time spent in overcoming this nuisance problem is exasperating.
Additionally, when using the manual feed, the paper regularly is printed upon at a slight angle because the manual feed guides are too loose and too close to the printer to keep the paper properly aligned to the printer's color drums/fuser. So print border is not parallel to the paper's border.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Only one Issue

This may be a small point but unlike my previous color laser printer this one "curves" the pages significantly. Apparently the heat of fixing the toner to the sheet is enough to curve the paper along its long axis. Since I edge bind a lot of documents this creates booklets that will not lay flat. Otherwise the features are everything you would want in a color laser printer.

A problem, not a solution

Although I have not yet had time to learn all I need to know to fully utilize the functions of this printer, it has performed well for the simple tasks I have used in the approximately 3 months I have had it. I was well aware of the "sleep" mode problem when I bought it but I didn't take the time I should have taken to investigate the magnitude of the problem. Searching the internet for a solution to the "sleep" mode problem reveals a long history of many, many hours of lost productivity, wasted bandwidth and wasted electricity by so many Brother customers trying to resolve an issue that could be so easily resolved by the manufacturer quickly and with very little effort. There is no telling what the loss in resources to the economy has been for the unsuspecting public that purchased Brother products over the years with similar problems. I now own 2 Brother products: my first and my last.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Paper Exits

Having two options for printed paper to leave the printer has been helpful. For heavy ,eight paper, I open the back door so the paper doesn't have to fold back to be discharged, where as, for standard paper, I keep that door closed and allow the paper to be discharged normally.

Reliable High Quality Printer

I have now owned this printer for about 2 months - the Pros: Reliable, high quality, quiet printing at a moderate price. Customer service is outstanding with responsiveness and assistance. the Cons: Wireless communication has not worked with multiple devices; works great with single laptop but will not sustain the communication with other connected devices despite the efforts from Customer Service.

Good color laser printer, for the money.

Brother makes great printers (this is my 3rd), and if you need an inexpensive SOHO color printer, this beats inkjets - except in one category. The colors are somewhat muddy and dark. I've tried adjusting the color output, without success. I needed reliable, color printing (no jammed inkjets) for my draft proposals. The 3170CDW works great for that. Duplex printing is excellent. Alternate tray feed is finicky, but useable. Cost per page is about as expected - higher than inkjet, but worth it to me -- and less than many competing printers. When I need perfect color for my final print, I transmit to my local commercial shop.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great printer but expensive

Great print quality with all the features and easy set up. It's not cheap to operate, but it is in line with other brands. After 7 years using a model 3070 that burned up a motor, I'm happy with this newer model.
