Not bad, but could use some improvements

The print quality is very good, however when using the manual feed to print on heavier paper, the paper won't stay straight plus you can only feed a single sheet at a time through the manual feed. I do like the fact that I can print directly to it from my iPhone and iPad.

All 4 printer drums need replaced every 15,000

Printer parts actually need replaced ever 15,000 pages.
Also, all the inks need replaced within days of each other regardless of using black only.
Bought this to save on ink but spent twice or more on it than my former brand. I thought because toner is a lesser quality, it would save on repeat black & white printing for contracts, etc...
Should have known after having 2 labellers by Brother. Waste, waste, waste.
Cheaper to buy iPads for everyone & backup disks!

Toners Exploding. Jams.

Lately the toners have been exploding yellow canaries and pink panthers destroying my documents and clean-up is a mess. It has worked well for a couple of years for my printing needs but bc of new designs and all-in-one printers you are better off finding a better model.

Great Printer for the Money!

I already own a Brother Laser (DCP-7040), so I didn't require another scanner... just a good color printer. My HL-3170CDW is the perfect solution. As a writer, most of my printing jobs only require B&W, so I use the DCP-7040 predominantly. My HL-3170CDW takes up the slack for the occasional color output I may need. BTW - I've had my DCP for several years and it has been problem-free. Brother = Quality!

Economical laser-like prints

This printer has served our food labeling business quite well, since we needed to print our labels that would not bleed with moisture. Perfect solution for a small family business that needs to cut costs. Dry toner cartridges do not clog with time like ink-jet printer ink. Highly recommend the larger capacity toner for economy, and always use the original Brother brand.
