A lens that makes a Great camera even better

I am using this lens on my NX30 I only take pics as a hobby I am not a pro. Adding this lens has improved distance shoots 1000% for me. It is great because it is compact, easy to use and crystal clear. I tool a picture with the lens set at 50mm from standing in front of my house. I then zoomed in on a building that is located at least 2 plus miles from me across a bay. with the 200mm zoom in I could clearly see the name of the building on the side and I could also even see people on their balconies. This is something I never thought I would be able to see at that distance .
Next I too a picture down my street as traffic was coming my way I was able to not only clearly see the birds taking off as the cars neared them I caught the birds mid-flight as they took off it was very clear no blur and great to look at.
This lens is easy to change with the camera release and works better then expected. My next use of this will be this weekend at a NFL preseason game I have seats in the end zone and can not wait to see what this lens can do. Again I am just a hobby photo taker not a pro.
Pros: Inexpensive, Lightweight
I would recommend this to a friend!

Very sharp, with nice rendering. Focus may hunt at the long end. Good build quality. The image stabilization was not quite as good as I expected.
Pros: Realistic color, Lightweight
Cons: stabilization

Decent all purpose lens

This 50-200mm lens has been a good all purpose lens for me. I'm more of a budget photographer so I will never own a very high quality lens. Therefore, I can't compare this with a very high quality lens. It has produced excellent photos for me and was a great value. Easily switch from auto to manual focus. Pressing the i-Fn button opens a settings menu on the display.
My only issue is with the zoom ring. Twisting the zoom ring is not as smooth as it should be. This isn't as much an issue with photos as it is with video. Making small adjustments to the zoom causes the ring to jump a little. This isn't a large issue but is something Samsung can improve. A smooth zoom ring would allow precise zooming and less camera movement while taking videos. I do understand that zooming while recording video isn't an effective technique but it has its place at times.
Overall, the value and images produced by this lens are excellent.
I would recommend this to a friend!

A great bird-watcher lens

I've been using my 50-200 MM lens to capture pictures of birds on my back yard feeders and I've been very pleased with the autofocus speed and focusing accuracy. When fully zoomed in, the lens is fairly long...but that seems to be typical of lenses of this focal length in this price class.
Pros: Inexpensive, quick autofocus
I would recommend this to a friend!

Decent Zoom, But OIS needs work
on June 30, 2014

Summary:
The OIS at a distance needs some improvement, and the ISO auto-selection doesn't seem to correlate as well as I'd like it to (shooting indoors without a flash). Up-close, the lens performs stupendously, providing sharp, bright images.
Sample Images:
The images I've uploaded are in broad daylight, albeit cloudy days. Note in the image with the ferry, how clear the image is. Note the blurriness in the image with the castle tower. The OIS feature did not perform as well as expected at a distance.
Firmware:
I was unable to find a firmware update for this lens prior to my trip, so any OIS improvements (if they exist) would not have been captured here.
Lens Features:
The auto-focus switch was very helpful on my trip, allowing me to enable/disable AF at-will. The auto-focus capability was a bit poor at a long distance (see sample images).
Lens Quality:
The image clarity is great under absolutely perfect conditions. The image color seems to be a bit lost (quality issue with the glass selection?), in daylight. (To the pro-user: Yes, I metered my scene, and tried several different variations. Different lenses produced brighter colors in the same environment).
Conclusion:
The lens works very well for its price. The OIS feature could be improved upon, but when used with that knowledge in-mind, you may be willing to work with it. I would recommend this lens to others.
Pros: Inexpensive, af switch is a godsend
Cons: image stabilization (v1)
I would recommend this to a friend!
