Icemaker functions very poorly

While we love the refrigerator, the ice-maker is a nightmare. It spits ice chips onto the floor and creates crushed ice even when we ask for cubes. We've had another brand ice-maker but this one is awful.
Pros: french door design is great.
Cons: Did not meet expectations, see icemaker review
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Defective from the beginning
on April 4, 2016

We've had this refrigerator now for 1 year, 9 months, and twice we've had to call for service. The first time, there was a defective circuit board that caused the ice auger to stop working. That was within the first year, so it was covered by the warranty. Now we're having a problem with the entire refrigerator not cooling adequately. The ice maker is covered with frost, ice is accumulating on the insides, and the ice is wet. Even though we have the refrigerator set on 34 degrees, drinks are not cold enough. I just paid a service guy for a service call, and he says it's probably something with the Digital Inverter Compressor, which is still under warranty. It seems that these units are made to break down, and I would never again buy a Samsung.
Cons: Poor quality
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Freezer and water puddling issues

We moved into our house 3 years ago and bought this refrigerator new in the Fall of 2014. The first issues arose about 12-15 months later and it's been a battle ever since. I'm not submitting anything new here if you read any of the other poor reviews. The ice maker freezes up and water puddles under the deli draw at the bottom. I'm actually going to cancel my repairman from coming this week because I now realize there is NOTHING I can do.
A few other issues: I've noticed mold in between the french doors. The touch screen is sometimes difficult to use when selecting between water, ice and crushed ice.
Sad. Time for a new refrigerator - not a Samsung though.
Cons: Poor quality
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi ElwaysOwner,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. Your satisfaction is our top priority, and we are glad you are using Samsung products. We apologize for the inconvenience of the refrigerator ice maker freezing up and for having a pool of water in your deli drawer. Usually, when you see a pool of water (or one that froze into a sheet of ice), it can often be attributed to condensation or a spill you didn't notice. We will surely notate this feedback for better products and services in the future.

It has taken me 5 years to talk my wife into replacing our 25 year-old side-by-side refrigerator. I am pleased that she waited, because we finally got the kind of quality and functional aesthetic that she expects. This refrigerator is beautiful, large, quiet, and versatile.
I have been researching refrigerators for all five years. There are two clear leaders in reliability, with Samsung being number one. The problem, up to this point, has been that she never liked the styles of refrigerator that I could find of any brand. I was attracted to the cooling design of the Samsung products, but turned off by the reviews of the reliability of the in-door ice maker that was put into the last generation of virtually all brands (the number 1 point of failure).
This refrigerator returns to the compact inside unit that had received many positive reviews for reliability and ice production. It also has dual compressors, a feature that is very hard to find in any residential model at any price point. It also has triple evaporators, to allow for the flexible control of the bottom right compartment, allowing it to be used in one of several modes.
Did I mention that the unit is large? The deliverers had to remove the doors, in order to set the unit and they did a wonderful job. It was well-packaged and protected, and arrived in flawless condition. Following the directions, it was completely ready for our food in about 4 hours and was making ice. We followed the instructions and the ice supply seems ample to our needs.
I would like to comment upon the even cooling throughout the unit and the precise temperature control. It cools magnificently and precisely. The refrigerator portion is very well laid out and presents no challenges to finding your food, or to storing a whole lot of it. The freezer(s) are also well thought out and controlled, if a bit small. -not a problem as we have a stand up freezer, as well.
We are very happy with the unit and hope to have it for many years. In this, I would like to make one recommendation. -The number one point of failure, aside from ice makers, for refrigerators is the electronics... -Not the cooling units or the fans. I have installed a whole house surge arrester in my house, and I have also put a dedicated one on this unit which is designed for this use. That is my suggestion to anyone buying this unit or another. Please remember, though, that a surge arrester is a sacrificial unit and should be changed every three years, or when it fails, or at the manufacturer's recommendation, whichever applies.
In summary, the unit is large, functions beautifully, is well-made, quiet, efficient, and can last a long time with proper care. My hat is off to the designers and engineers that produced it. We are very pleased with our purchase.
Pros: great engineering, flexible storage, commercial quality, beautiful, even cooling, powerful, dual compressors, triple evaporators, great finish
Cons: smallish freezer
I would recommend this to a friend!

Good ice maker!

I researched french door fridges for a few weeks and finally decided on this one. Overall, it had the best ratings from numerous sources.
I love the roominess of this fridge and the versatility of the shelves. My old fridge was 10 years old so it was time to get a new one. This one keeps the produce fresh for much, much longer.
The ice and water taste terrific. And the big surprise was how fast the ice bin fills up. There is an extra bin in the freezer that stays full too.
The delivery guys had to remove the doors to get it through my door to install it, but they did an excellent job and didn't damage it.
I've had it a month and so far no repairs or problems, which was a fear after reading all the nightmare reviews. And spending this much on an appliance is not something I do very often. So I bought the extended warranty just in case. But the fridge is very quiet and I don't expect any problems. If any problems do start happening, I'll try to remember to update this review.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Looks great and seems to have great options. Have had for 6 months, refrigerator has a loud cracking noise multiple times a day which sounds very bad like something is broken. Also has an air leak causing ice to melt and refreeze and jam up. I would not recommend this refrigerator, for the high cost and subpar quality I would go elsewhere
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations

Lesson learned

We bought the fridge new in 2014. All is well in the beginning and then your extended 4 year warranty is up and then things go south. First, the ice maker constantly freezes and you need to defrost it and now the motor for the twin cooling unit gets ice build up and your unit sounds like a jet engine ready to lift off. Buyer beware, it looks nice and plays nice.....for awhile
