Hi Steve,
I was unhappy to learn that you did not have a good experience. However, if the ink level indicates there is ink in the cartridge, you probably need to use the cleaning routine from the printer menu to clean the printhead.
If there is no ink, please consider returning it to us. Step-by-step instructions for completing the return and exchange process is covered at: store.hp.com/us/en/cv/returnsandexchanges

Depending on your operating system and the app you are using to send the printout, the message can probably be controlled using the advanced printing option settings.
