It took a little time to get used to the noise cancelling buzz, but these headphones are great. I use them for studying in loud places, and as a headset with video games. I would recommend them.

Great sound,uncomfortable,subpar noise canceling

After putting these to the test on 3 different 3-hour plus flights, I can say these are not as light as compared with an older Bose QuiteComfort 15 pair I own. These (Beats) are considerably heavier, after an hour of use, the headband starts to become quite uncomfortable, to the point that I have to either remove them for a bit or move them in order to relief some of the pressure. Also, the noise cancellation spectrum is by any means as good as my older Bose QC15. With these Beats, I have to raise the volume higher to try and mask the noises. Sound quality though, it's quite good. The Bose QC15 have a more natural sound, the Beats have a more processed sound, but I do like how the base (lower frequencies) become more pronounced, deeper and richer.
In summary:
Pros:
1. Deep and richer sound
2. Rechargeable
3. Auto power off
Cons:
1. Uncomfortable and heavy
2. Subpar noise cancellation
3. Headband adds some pressure to your head
My next steps: I plan on returning these and going for a new pair of Bose QC 35!

I originally went out to Fred Meyers to buy my son a nice pair of headphones. I took him with me. He looked around and seen they did sell Beats By Dre. However...... only 2 choices. We left empty handed. I came home and got online to Best Buy. Look here son...... they carry more than 2 kinds. We did end up buying the newest Beats. He couldn't of been happier. And this if course made me The Best Mom Ever ..

How Often Used:Less than once a week
I write this review to forewarn you about Beats By Dre, by Monster, as a brand and headphone line. While they are nice sounding headphones, compared to other headphones in the same price range made by truly reputable long running headphone makers, these fall short sound quality-wise. (AKG, Grado, Sennheisers that cost more than $200, Audio-Technica... just for starters)
On a scale of 1-10 these would rate about a 6.5 or 7. This is what the huge majority of headphone experts rate Beats. Yet everyone buying them and "loving" them have more than likely never listened to a $300 headphone before. Most people are used to your run-of-the-mill department store headphones (skullcandy, sony, white apple earbuds, etc) and compared to those, these sound worlds better, however if you compared these to truly good headphones then you'd hear what you're missing. These have a good bass response but are lacking elsewhere. Yet the bass is NOT the best you can get and if you could get better bass along with better mids, highs and a much better build quality, why wouldn't you? Don't you want the whole experience and the best value for your hard earned money?
These are just highly marketed to a specific segment of the population to fool you into thinking you're getting the best money can buy. Don't believe the hype. Read a reputable headphone/audio forum, such as head-fi or audioholics, and you'll see the overwhelming negative opinions by people who both, KNOW audio and don't fall for the marketing and peer blitz.
If overwhelming bass and style is all you care about, and over spending for headphones is your thing, then go ahead and get them. If you want the best sound for the price and don't care about style and image then you can get comparably sounding headphones for less, probably half as much. What's great about it: style and strong bass (albeit overly strong)
What's not so great: build quality, requires battery, mid-range and high-range, overly colored sound

Decent Sound, WAY overpriced

While these headphones sound pretty good for certain genres of music (rap & hip hop), they are lacking in so many categories. Primarily, the price for what you get is terrible. They are constructed of cheap plastic that is known to break over time, wires/cables that are garbage, and sound quality that is mediocre when compared to the likes of other brands for the same or considerably less money. They wont even advertise specifications on their website because they know they are under-engineered; this is particularly embarrassing... The ONLY info you can actually find anywhere on the internet is their frequency response which is not impressive at all.
Beats Studio($300) : 20hz - 20,000hz
V-moda LP2($200) : 5hz - 30,000hz
...wow. That explains why they don't advertise their specs.
Another category where Beats falls short is construction. Made almost entirely of cheap plastic, they are known to break over relatively short periods of time. I, as well as a few friends can attest to this. The Studios I purchased did not break on the outside, but were snap, crackling, and popping within a month. Annoying white noise is present as a result of their build-in amplifier and pointless noise-cancelling features that should NEVER be included in "Studio grade" headphones. While they have a decent warranty policy, companies such as bose and V-moda have far superior ones.
All in all, these headphones sound OK, but not anywhere close to where they should be for the price. This high price point is probably a consequence of the over-marketing/advertising they do. If your looking for style and don't care much about sound quality or durabilty, these headphones are for you..
I think thats the main demographic for Beats anyway - people with lots of money to spend on a fashion statement.
