White Dots
on December 4, 2010

Good for the most part. But the scanner generates alot of white dots. Alot have said it is very sensitive to dust but this is brand new so you would think there would be no dust. Even those that clean it report some white specs and the software doesn't address this due to the high volume of these (theer will always be some left).
Pros: High resolution
Cons: alot of dots on pictures.

Okay Hardware, Terrible Software

I bought this machine to digitialize a lifetime's collection. I guess the machine is Okay, but the software is beyond terrible. On one hand, it talks to you like a 3 year old, on the other hand, it is incredibly obtuse, leads you around in frustrating 'Do-Loops', and you REALLY REALLY have to work at figuring out how to actually save your scans. Should have just taken my slides to a local processor and paid for the conversion.
Pros: none evident
Cons: terrible software

Out of the box not working right

It only scans 1 strip of negatives correctly. When I switch them then the other strip scans correctly, so it is not the negatives itself. Basically the "top" strip does not scan the way it is supposed to be. Disappointed!!

Junk

Canon EOS camera software has downloaded smooth and effortlessly for me. This software on the other hand was very problematic. No clue as to what was downloaded. I fought with in constantly to no avail. Color slides that look great in my slide viewer then scanned only come to one way with the CanoScan 9000F, dark and noisy. A lot of work is required to get the scan from horrible to slightly horrible. Same results on both MAC OS and Windows 10. I'm now out the purchase price of this pice of junk. It's to big for a paper weight so I can see no alternative but to junk it. I'm now very reluctant to continue my patronage of Canon. Hugely disappointed.

Good when the software works.

The scans are respectable for a scanner in this price category. Be prepared for it to stop working every time your OS is updated. This is the first Canon product I will be "round filing." Too bad.

Tried to download software. Slowest site on the planet. It knew my OS (good) but I seem to need to download 4 separate file. Actually seem to require only two but one will not open so cannot use my scanner.

Waste of time and money

Not too sure why canon made this. I picked one up to scan film with and the quality is terrible, down right awful. Scans are generally pretty ugly and need a fair amount of work to make them look slightly less terrible but terrible nonetheless. Scanning software says the image will be one size but after copying the image into the Lightroom to work with it the file size is about a quarter of what scan gear says it will be. Very disappointed in this product and if you're thinking of getting one, don't!!

from an illustrators point of view

DO NOT BUY THIS if you are an illustrator and need to scan at 1200 dpi on a consistent basis. this scanner WILL NOT allow me to scan my illustrations at the resolution i need to make the images the size i need for the end result.
other than that, this scanner is excellent. if you need a scanner to do the basic stuff it is a fine purchase, but if you need it to go above and beyond don't get it. you will have problems... and they are problems that can't be overcome (i know this because i just spent 40 minutes on the phone with a very helpful support tech).
Pros: durable, Fast Connectivity, High-speed scanning
Cons: can not scan at 8.5 x 11 at 1200 dpi
I would recommend this to a friend!
