THE GOOD: I have had the MFC-J475DW for about a month, and have been impressed with this AIO printer. More compact design than other printers. Colour outputs are bright and vibrant even on plain paper (better than Lexmark outputs which are great). Wi-Fi setup was real easy, although Manual setup can be frustrating and trying if you have disabled the router’s WPS/AOSS features for security purposes. Ink cartridges are easy to access for replacement. Using maintenance functions requires less ink than HP printers (which are real hogs). All print speeds are great, thus saving ink. Printing noises are more subdued than HP and Lexmark. ADF is the best feature when scanning multiple documents.
THE BAD: Software installation takes a long time to complete from the disc (download update takes less time, but doesn’t have all functions). Don’t care for individual colour ink cartridges, although this now appears to be standard for all inkjet printers. Still having some difficulty scanning and saving to computer when using wireless functions (scanner not communicating with computer, due to 3rd party firewall issues). Photo paper restricted to maximum 5x7 sheets (8x10 not recommended, but it does print with average results).
THE UGLY: Software & Network's User Guides are totally worthless (most everything you need can be found in both Basic and Advance User guides). Could find solutions to specific problems as indicated.

I have always hd HP printers in the past and have generally been pleased with this Brother product in terms of ease of use and I like the ink cartridge system better, and I like the 2-sided print feature.
I do not think the printing of photos is as good as on my old HP machine, though.
I also had a problem with the printer after a paper jam such that I had to call Customer Service several times and they ended up replacing the machine.
I was sent an e-mail saying "As a reminder to the agreement made when we processed your replacement, the machine being returned to Brother must be shipped within 3 business days from receipt of the replacement using the prepaid Return Label provided by Brother."
I was never informed that the malfunctioning machine needed to be shipped within 3 business days and I feel this is an unreasonable expectation. I have been greatly inconvenienced by the malfunctioning of this machine and the attempts to fix it that were not effective so I was without a printer for several weeks. I appreciate the fast shipping of the replacement but I think you should allow at least a week for people to pack up the machine and send it back. If I am making an agreement in accepting the shipment of a replacement, it should be clear.

Worst Purchase Ever

I will NEVER purchase another Brother product. I had constant problems with ink cartridges not being recognized, as well it using more ink than specified. I was purchasing ink every other day. I also had paper jams non stop. The linking wireless did not function properly and I would lose faxes.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I am very happy with my purchase. I was surprised it even came with full ink cartridges (most don't). The sheet feeder was the one function I required. And very easy setup.

Not customer friendly

Now how are you going to sell a product that doesn't fully work? Yeah it can scan, it can copy, it can fax, ok cool. I want to simply print, and even though I know 100% that my cartridge still has ink, the printer refuses to acknowledge that there is ink in it. I'm not going to pay more money for more ink when I know I still have some. Want to know how I know I do? Because I ran the test ink quality check and the black ink was just fine. You made a machine to lie to make money. Shame on you.

While this is a great printer for a great price, and ultimately an okay purchase, this ad is deceiving. It says that it "saves money"; however, if one color cartridge goes out, you can not even print in black and white! And while that may be fine with some, I am a student. Most of what I print consists of papers, with the occasional worksheet. I do not want to spend my money on cartridges I don't need. I have honestly had more problems with this printer than it's worth; however, every time I have had issues, Brother's costumer service has been extremely kind and helpful and has either resolved the issue or gave me the information I needed. It is not a bad purchase, but I would look at other options as well before doing so.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
