I want to print in black, but it will not print because the yellow ink needs to be replaced.

You cannot print a black and white word document when the color is out. I never print colour but somehow it ran out over a month. Yes, that's how much ink it wastes when it cycles in the middle of the night. DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER!

Color Ink Requirement Makes Printer Use Expensive

I couldn't recommend this product to anyone who prints mainly in black and white (B&W). Has good B&W print quality, but color print quality is only fair. Otherwise printer does operate well as wireless use. However, the requirement for you to have color ink even if not printing in color becomes tedious, because there is constant pop-ups to replace color cartridges, and eventually printer will not print at all until all color cartridges are replaced. This is a wast of money to purchase color cartridges that are not being used. I've owned this printer for about 2 years. It is a backup for when I am working at home, and I print about 98% of my work in B&W. This is an example of the cartridge issue. Two months ago I replaced all color cartridges. Since then I've printed less than 30 pages in color, yet two of the color cartridges are completely empty. This has been an ongoing problem, but seems to have worsened recently. My black ink cartridge is still about 70% full. Buying unnecessary color cartridges to print B&W is a waste of money. This results in excess ink purchases for the consumer, and printer operation is not affordable for those who mainly print in B&W.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought this Brother printer because I have been using the same brand for so many years now. The MFC-J475DW that I purchased has a very good reputation in printing documents and photos as well as copying and fax. Now It's even wireless and so easy to set up with all the gadgets we have. If ever am going to buy another printer I will always look for a Brother brand and nothing can compare sleekness and bold beauty of the said product.

Doing great so far

My printer is humming along very nicely. So far. Had it about a month now. Once I get all the settings figured out. it should last as long as our Brother Fax.
We do a lot printing, pictures of our grand kids mostly.
I do a lot of scanning.The only trouble I have is when scanning. You can not add pages if the pages scaned have printing on the back.
The ink is cheeper then my old printer's was.

I have had the printer not yet a week. So far it prints faster than the Lexmark i replacedc. My scanning is faster, and the quality of the print is excellent.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I replace an HP printer, which just suddenly stopped working.. and decided to try a brother, since I had an all-in-one printer/fax/copier by brother years ago and it never ever failed me... I even sold it a few years ago because it only printed in black ink...and the person who bought it still loves it and told me that it works flawlessly. Well, this little printer the I just bought from Brother is just as great. Easy setup, great features and design and so far has performed beautifully and without any issues. Really like the little ink indicator on the front window to show the ink levels when printing... Very pleased with this printer and I would probably be as pleased with any of the other Brother models... They just make a very nice product...
