Worth The Wait!

After waiting so long for this album, the wait is now over. To be honest I didn't know what to expect from this album. However, since being able to listen to the whole thing I can personally say, in my humble opinion, it was worth the wait. The guitar work is mean, the vocals are sharp, and the lyrics are haunting. Axl poured his heart into every song and that really is noticed. Songs like Street of Dreams and This I Love are perfect examples of that. Axl makes a statement with this album and that statement is "I'm back!"
What's great about it: All around great rock album, very smooth transition and easy to listen to
What's not so great: The sheer fact that we have to wait for the next album!

It's been a long time since we have a Guns N' Roses full length studio. Instead of giving a brief history like everyone else does, i am just going to provide you with my reviews on the songs. I saw them back in 2006 at the izod center and they played roughly four-five songs from this album.
1. Chinese Democracy-good song to set up the album, heavy at its best
2. Shackler's Revenge -this is a weird one and i must say it feels out of place with the rest, but it does have that classic axl singing over himself style.
3. Better -great song, love it and currently my favorite.
4. Street Of Dreams- i believe this was "the blues" and at the concert it was a intro to nov. rain.
5. If The World -a mellow song for rose, but catchy and lyrics are powerful
6. There Was A Time -the intro drags a lil but the heavy progression of the guitars and his voice makes it a hard hitter.
7. Catcher N' The Rye - great guitar solo through out and one of the first demo songs i have heard aside from better and silkworms.
8. Scraped -the beginning whine is terrible, but once its over the guitar and drum beat is catchy
9. Riad N' The Bedouins- another out of place song, but after a few passes the song is fast and aggressive
10. Sorry -this is a classic gnr song starts off slow and ends big. very powerful.
11. I.R.S. -this reminds me of chinese democracy pure heavy no letting up.
12. Madagascar- great song, but way too much movie and political quoting breaks the flow of a great song.
13. This I Love-the lyrics are different than the ones were leaked, but its one of the non rock songs on the album.
14. Prost. -this was "this i love " on the leaks and its a great song to end with.
Overall the fourteen song track list is impressive considering how much material he has(rumors suggesting two more albums in 2010,12) The 9 song leaks sound much better on the record and feels complete. Also the vinyl is just as good as.
What's great about it: GNR
What's not so great: not enough songs

Great album

People love to hate this album because none of the original members of Guns (besides Axl of course) are left. They also choose to make fun of it because of how long Axl has been working on this CD & how many band members have come and gone. Truth is, all biases aside, the music is amazing. Every track is good, and most of them are amazing. Better, Sorry, If the World, There Was a Time, and Madagascar are up there with GNRs best. I'm a huge original GNR fan & I like Velvet Revolver a lot too. Don't buy it expecting Appetite for Destruction pt. II or anything resembling original GNR (except Axl's voice), but buy it expecting something totally new and great. It won't let you down, I cannot wait to see if there are anymore albums to come.
What's great about it: The music
What's not so great: The wait & Bumblefoot

I listened to all the tracks on myspace. It is an ok record. The production quality is certainly good. It actually is over produced. Remember when GNR was a "rock" band. The songs are so so. There is no real standout for me except madagascar, which has been out for years now anyway. The guitar playing is good but not much else can be said about this project. IMHO of course.
What's great about it: Good production quality and guitars
What's not so great: Emotionally vacant

Time For a Change
on November 21, 2008

from The United States of America
I just listened to the new Guns N Roses album in its entirety. Here are my immediate thoughts. And, please, before you read on, know that I am a huge fan and admittedly biased.
For starters, I will say that I truly believe—or, at least, I’m hopeful—that this album will lend a hand in the washing away of the cookie cutter music that’s been pushed down our throats over the last five or six years. This album is truly innovative and it pushes the envelope. And that translates to rock-n-roll in its purest form.
Taking well over a decade to come to fruition, we all know that the release of Chinese Democracy has been a longtime coming, and that’s the understatement of the millennium. However, as a direct result of this delay (here comes the silver lining), the tracks on the album are very diverse. Some have the same bluesy intensity that propelled Appetite to the top of the charts. Others are cut from the same cloth melodically as those on the Illusion albums. There are also a few that can be said to have a mechanical and/or synthesized influence attributed to industrial rock. No matter your favored genre of music, nor the lineup of GNR that you prefer (original vs. all others), you are bound to enjoy the album as a whole.
Of all the songs, in no particular order, my personal favorites are the title track, Chinese Democracy, There was a Time, Better, I.R.S., and—one that has grown on me significantly—Scraped. All of the songs will contain one key ingredient that will remind you of the days when music was relevant and creative. The ingredient, of course, is Axl Rose.
Regardless of your opinions of Axl, nobody needs to be reminded of his unique, powerful, instantly-recognizable singing voice. Perhaps, though, you do need to be reminded of his exceptional songwriting ability. I highly recommend that you use your favorite search engine to retrieve the lyrics to the songs as they’re played. Or, if the CD comes with a lyrics insert, I urge you to follow along; especially during the last couple of verses to Chinese Democracy. Powerful stuff.
I will not patronize you or the material by evaluating the album song-by-song and telling you what you should like and what you should dislike, or where it was spot-on and where it went wrong. We’ll each have our own perspective and each song will speak differently to the listener. That is what good music does. It invokes different emotions in different people. Again, I might be going a bit overboard, but I seriously hope that this album alone will help inspire and pump creativity into the sludgy arteries of today’s lackluster music scene.
And to all of you devotees of the original lineup of Guns N Roses…Yes, I miss Slash, Duff, and Izzy, too, but it’s time to move on. Please don’t let your affinity for the late 1980’s/early 90’s prevent you from participating in a welcomed diversion from the mainstream.
Thank you for reading this review. Let me know what you think of the album.
What's great about it: Exclusive to a national chain that does NOT edit the music it sells, afforable, different format options
What's not so great: I wrote this review without having closely examined the cover art/extras, but gave it the benefit of the doubt

First let me say thanks to AXL for putting out this CD !!!! I have been a fan since the group first came out. Its been a long wait but its worth it. You can tell there was a lot of work put in this cd, he did it his way.
To everyone who says that the group still should not be called Guns N Roses, WHY?? So what he is the only original member, he was one of the co-founders and when I think of Guns N Roses the first person I think of is AXL. What would the group sound like with the other members and a different singer?? Not GNR to me.
The new GNR music sounds great, I do get some of the old influence in the music with alot of new. When you listen to the music no group today can draw you in like Axl can. I can't stop listening to it. When I put this cd in I can see myself listening from start to finish, not skipping from song to song. How many cd's can we say that about today?
Just remember its not 1987. Keep an open mind and enjoy the NEW music!!!!
WAY to go GNR, I hope there is more to come!!!!
What's great about it: Great mix of Old and New Music
What's not so great: ????
