First just let me say that I'm 30 something yrs old and I have never bought a audio CD for myself. Oh I've bought them for other people, just not for myself. I usually just buy one or more tracks at a time because I never like the whole album. BUT THIS IS GUNS N F**KING ROSES! So this makes my first CD album. Now I know what you thinking it's not GNR it's just Axel. But this proves that Axel doesn't need slash, duff, matt, or izzy to help him. When I listen to the music all I hear is that voice. Now don't get me wrong I think slash, duff, matt, and izzy are great musicians. But, even great musicians can be replaced. BUT NEVER THE VOICE!!! This album is one of the best I've heard in a while. I look forward to more and more and more.
What's great about it: GUNS N F**KING ROSES
What's not so great: The time I had to wait for this cd!!!!!!!!

Except for Axl's voice which is the same as it used to sound, this album does not sound like G'N'R at all. The songs sounded over-produced and over-edited. The way the songs were sequenced on the album gave it a really disjointed and abstract feel. It may need to grow on me over time...
What's great about it: Axl
What's not so great: the G'N'R sound is gone, along with the rest of the band ...

Ok folks, the album is finally out! Anyone expecting an "Appetite" type of sound will be very disappointed. Chinese Democracy is an extension of the Illusion albums in my opinion. Obviously the new guitarists don't have the creative energy that Slash has, but he is a special and unique talent.
Axl still sounds great and I thought that the Rolling Stone review was pretty spot-on.
Just forget about "Appetite," listen to the album all the way through and you will be pleasantly surprised at how good the music on this album actually is. It is a shame that Buckethead left the band because he is an incredible guitar player and you can hear some of his cool technique on display throughout the album.
I'm waiting for Axl, Slash & Duff to put aside their differences and make the greatest rock album of all time. But considering that is probably never going to happen Go out and buy this album!

I'd like to start with the three thoughts I NEVER had while listening to "Chinese Democracy": 1) This needs Slash. 2) This needs Duff. 3) This needs Izzy. You get the idea.
"Chinese Democracy" is - forgetting all the hype, history, etc. - a brilliant hard rock album, where not a single track is wasted. I planned to make no comparisons to previous GN'R albums, both to give it the chance to shine on its own merits and to avoid disappointment; about halfway through, I realized that was completely unnecessary.
Everything that's great about this "band" is here. As Simon Cowell says, "If I'm being completely honest," this may be a superior album to "Use Your Illusion I & II" (albums I grew up on that shaped the way I listened to and wrote music) and "Appetite for Destruction" in many ways. Each song stands out, pushes the envelope just enough without sacrificing identity, and makes you think. Some are just as gritty as "Rocket Queen" or "Mr. Brownstone" from "Appetite for Destruction." And nearly all of them have the anthemic qualities that pervaded the "Use Your Illusion" albums.
I hope fans of both GN'R and hard rock in general accept "Chinese Democracy" as more than simply vindication for Axl Rose - it deserves to be recognized for the incredible work (if not masterpiece - only time will tell on that one) that it is.

Everybody says this isn't "Guns N' Roses"...they're wrong!
IT IS GUNS N' ROSES!
The sound of it's not much more different than the "Use Your Illusion Saga"..
with the excepton of the industrial type buzz and Axl's lyrics have grown-up alot.
I love this record JUST AS MUCH as the old CD's in spite of Slash, Duff & co. being missing and I think Axl did a find job in finding the 2nd greatest band in the world! ofcourse he can't replace the orig GNR...
they were a dream band come true but he did do well on this record without them!
Don't believe the "it's not GNR" nonesense because it is...
What's great about it: the album sounds great, nice vinyl
What's not so great: the lyrics weren't included atleast not in the vinyl version
